I don't know where the Dr. Pepper craving came from-I'm not and never have been a big soda drinker except ginger ale when I'm sick.
I have had a couple of diet cokes in the past couple of weeks, didn't have a problem with the taste or the bubbles -- they actually helped sooth my stomach. It is not something I plan to do every day, but once in a blue moon. There are those things that we crave and need to try -- remember everything in moderation not excess.
I tend to drink it from a fountain seem to be less belching that way. One day last week witout realizing it i drank a 32 oz diet coke. Granted it lasted all day and the longer it sits the less fizz. I find when i drink it I just burp the carbination out. same thing with beer you can ask 100 surgeons and ask 100 members about carbonation some say it wont hurt you some say it will. Do what you think is best dont deprive your self you will just go crazy thinking about it. I am 9 months out I may have 2 -3 diet cokes a week or even a couple beers on the weekend.
