Default Beans? Can you tolerate them

Hi guys. Got a question about beans. I recently started to add some soft foods to my evening meal, and last night I had chili. Im not getting near enough protein so I looked at the bean and the meat as a great idea. I felt like Heck in a handbasket alllll day. Last week I had some boiled navy beans and same deal. Did anyone else have issues digesting them? Is this normal, and should I avoid them for the forseable future?

I tried the bacon and bean soup strained because I am still on liquids. Just for my own sake and chewing I tried just 2 little beans and I chewed them REALLY well and well my stomach didnt like that at all! Maybe because I am still so early after surgery but I def wont be eating those if they make me sick!

I've only tried refried beans at this point, not whole beans, altho some chili sounds so good right now.

No issues with beans. In fact, I have a huge pot of 3 different types of beans & ground beef cooking right now. It's a taco soup recipe.
I will say that earlier in my recovery I got very ill from chili but now it is not an issue.

My info says that if you try a new food and your stomach doesn't handle it to skip it for a few weeks then try it again

Chill with beans was one of the first food I ate when allowed soft foods. Enjoyed the spicy flavor and no problems after. But everyone is different. I would give it a couple of weeks and then try again. Hope you are feeling OK other wise.

You should start with refried beans... the skin on the beans might be too much this early out. Everyone is different in what they can handle. Don't be afraid to give it a go in a week or so. Good luck

canned pinto beans and white beans...ive been eating those since week one. however in the beginning i took beano before eating them, to be on the safe side with the gas. i had none, a little gurgling at first but no pain. if they did not have such high sugar content i would eat barbque beans every night...love them and they fill me up so easily. oh well.

oh and mash them REALLY well before eating, with beans in the early days i found that chewing even to liquid didnt break up the skins right and i could feel the lumps. but when mashed with a potato masher they were just fine

No problem with beans of any type. In fact, I am going to make a huge pit of New Orleans red beans to freeze.

I had a lot of trouble with beans! Even pureed refried beans!! I have completely avoided all but the beans in Wendy's Chili since, as they really hurt my stomach. I spoke to my doc about it and he said exactly what was suggested above...try them again in a couple of weeks. Eventually I will try them again, but I am certainly not in a big hurry as cruddy as they made me feel!
