Hello!
Does anyone have info on the *cost* of sleeve surgery done privately in Sydney or thereabouts? I am Canadian, with family in OZ.
Thanks,
pmhlb
Im not sure of the all the costs including hospital etc. But I think the surgeons fees were roughly $4000 and the anaesthetics $1200. Plus all hospital & theatre, physio, psych, dietician and surgeon visits.

Hi Joel. I found Dr Baxter really professional if not a little clinical, but aside from his persona he did a great job that went without any hitches. All the nurses at Sunshine Coast Private were really nice and caring. Surgery wasn't as painful as I thought it would be, a large hematoma and just a little disorientated when I woke up. I think I only had pain relief for 2 days? One thing I found odd, as I used to drink about 2 litres of water a day, was that it went down like a brick and still does? I've heard other people say this as well. Instead I now drink Bickfords diet lime, well it works for me anyway. Take your vitamins with you to hospital and your shakes as well. I bought the nutrichews from the dietician and used then for about 3 months.
It really is worth it. I've lost 23 kilos, but I haven't exercised, naughty I know (starting gym next week), I've had to throw all my clothes and I'm starting to feel like the old me again.
If you want to know about food etc after surgery just let me know, happy to pass on the info.

Ironically I used to manage Snap Fitness in Caloundra so I'll be more than happy to help you with your weight loss when it comes to exercise if you could help me with post surgery food ideals, that are low in sugar and Logan cal, as I understand it there is a golden window of six months to lose as much weight as possible with sleeving?
Hello. Can anyone help/make suggestion/comment....
I saw my surgeon today who scheduled a sleeve for December 2014.
I am 5ft6" and 89 kgs...I am a size 16-18.
I have a hx of diabetes in my family. ...
I will have a 10mth old bub....
can you tell me what the recovery period is?
How many days might I need help with my baby?
Has anyone used dr clement tsang in Sydney?
Is everyone happy with the surgery?
Im so unhappy with my appearance that im ready to do this. ..but im sooooo scared of complications. ..
what should I do???
Please help!!!
HI Nya, this is my very first post and I've been reading through posts to figure out if I'm actually elegible for the gastric sleeve. My weight is 87kgs and I'm 5ft4".
I understand about being so unhappy and wanting to make a such a drastic change and understand the fear in complications.
I called the surgeon yesterday only to be told that I need to attend an information seminar first so I am doing that next week. I'm so worried that I will be told that I dont meet the criteria. There is history of diabetes and heart conditions in the family so I'm hoping it will get me through.
I'd like to see how you go with your per and post surgery and wish you all the very best.
Hi Bubbles.
My advice is go see Dr Kuzinkovas. Amazing Surgeon and completley understands the weight loss challenges for ALL people not just those who have very high BMI's. I was only BMI 31/32 but with family hx of obesity and diabetes. I felt depressed and tired of fighting my weight and the sleeve has helped me gain some control back!
I have already lost 13kg in 5 weeks!!! I would have taken 1 month to lose 1 kg exercising like a mad woman and eating very little. I was worried it wouldnt work for me too as I have done 500cal day diets and lost nothing. ANyway go and see him as he has a lovely bedside manner and is extremely professional.
Hi Nya. As wrote above - amazing results with the sleeve and I am happy with my decision. I feel like I have some control over my weight again.I am only 5 weeks out and went from 90kg (was 94kg pre surgery) down to 77kg today
With respect to recovery - I didnt bounce back like many others seem to - ill be honest. I stayed 4 nights in hospital as I felt $hit hahah. It wasnt unbearable but I was tender and the gas pains got me and I had a migraine hahah I had trouble getting much fluids in the first few days so was on IV fluids for 3 nights but this isnt totally uncommon. Many people leave after 2/3 nights. On day 5 I started some walking around the shops but after an hr was poopt. i found tiredness was the hardest part and keepng up my fluids and protein. I honestly lacked both of these til about day 10. I did have a few moments of what have i done to myself!!!! day 3 and then again at day 6/7. I think i was literally withdrawing off food though so alot of it is mental.
I think if you have someone to help you for the first week out that would be good. I feel better every week and am starting to feel more normal again now too and can try more foods. cant eat much at all but seem to be ok with tasting foods atm. I dont think about food anywhere near as much as I used to also which is great. every now and then i feel hungry but find if i take the omeprazole it settles so often its just acid anyway. i still think about foods and crave them but funnily now i can try more things - have tasted some of th foods i craved and am not too fussed! I think it takes a good few weeks to feel 'good again' but after 10 days/2 weeks youll be good enough to do what you need to. I know some people only have 1 week off work but i would say as long as you can as it is an adjustment period and you can get tired and frsutrated some days tryng to find something to eat. BUT once you start seeing the weight loss, it makes it all worth it!!! I tried on clothes from my 'other' cupboard on the weekend and it was so much fun and i cried I was so happy that i fit into some of my cute dresses again.....anyway Id say the first week or two are toughest in my opinion. I have a 4 year old so not as hard as a 10 month old but i think if someone can help you for the first few days you are home youd prob be OK!!! Dr Kuzinkovas did my sleeve and he is great. good luck
