I was sleeved on the 22nd Sept with Dr David Joseph at the Mater Hospital. Surgery has gone ALOT better than expected. I only have good things to say about Dr Joseph and the staff at the Mater.
I go to sydney institute of obesity in Ashfield sydney but my actual surgery was done at saint George private. Dr Kuzinkovas has been absolutely fantastic. Made sure all my questions were answered pre op and visited me each day I was recovering in hospital and is a genuinely nice caring person. Definitely no complaints from me! Best decision Ive ever made![]()

I do the op shops over for clothes. Sometimes, when you've had a loss, the old clothes start to look ridiculously too big, and the necklines embarrassingly deep! I often find clothes with their tags still on, at a fraction of the new price....gotta wear something between start and goal weights after all! (lol) Salvos often get large donations of new clothes from companies. I recently bought some new tops for $2 each! Work pants for $8, and some lovely dresses, including the one shown in my picture for around $12 each, and had bought a couple on special at op shop for 2 for $15. The doctors do stress upon you not to get too excited, as your size and shape will go through a number of changes, but as I said earlier, you still have to wear something along the way.
Good luck with it all!
Dr Layani and his team are very supportive. I was sleeved 6 weeks ago without any problems at all. I was given a tablet just before going into surgery which was to help with the gas pain afterwards. I suffered NO GAS PAIN which was wonderful. They are very professional and really do care about their patients wellbeing. At 8 weeks post op, we get a group session with other patients who were sleeved/banded around the same time and this is lead by the dietician and the Psych. I can highly recommend Dr Layani to anyone considering this surgery. 'Weight Loss Solutions Australia' - Tugun, Gold Coast
It's a modern hospital and coming to the Gold Coast for a little holiday is another bonus. All the best with your decision making!
Will be getting sleeved with Dr Harsha Chandraratna from Obesity Surgery WA at St John of God Murdoch - Perth on the 28th of May. Only met him once but he made an impression with his amazing bedside manner. Feel very at ease with him. Haven't seen anyone on here who has use his services though.
Sara, I have heard him discussed, either here or on another board. He is very well loved. Glad you feel the same way.
I do not qualify for insurance until early next year, so I hope you will let us know how you go. It seems that Dr C works with love, which is the key to good healing, of course.
Stay in touch,
Nel
Hi Nikkita, i haven't have the op yet just looking into it. Im like you, i had the band and i put weight back on, but mine was due due to having to have all the fluid removed as it was causing bad reflux. I was so over the feeling of food getting stuck and throwing up when you forget to chew lots and could never eat fish of chicken. Im hoping i will be a suitable candidate for the op as i have to take meds every day now to stop reflux. I still have band i so not sure how it will go.....remove band and do surgery at same time or remove band then do surgery later?? Will have to wait and see. Also due to the fact i live remotely i cant afford to fly back and forth have band adjustments etc. Fingers crossed i can have it. good luck to you tho

Cannot speak highly enough of this team. So thorough, so sympathetic, the team end up feeling like personal friends. I have gone through without a problem.
