To start off with I purchased a variety of items to have in my pantry for when I returned home from surgery.

Before my surgery, I purchased this
    Protica - Protica - Detail

I could sip on this and finish it through out the day. Now, I drink one first thing in the morning. The flavor that I like the best is blue raspberry swirl. The good thing about this is that it's 25 grams of protein in a 3 oz tube.

this is a great way to get protein while you are on clear liquids.

( There are a variety of brands available of this type of product. This is just the brand I use.)

    I also purchased this

    Protica - Detail

I am not a big fan of Jello anyway. I did try to eat some just to get the protein and I still have quite a few left. Jello makes me gag, even without being protein Jello. If you like Jello, I think it's a good choice to help get the clear liquids. I could only take a few bites at a time in the beginning. I would just cover the top and put it back in the fridge and take a few more bites later. I won't purchase this again because I don't like Jello anyway.

Today I am purchasing this and I can't wait to try it. It is the Protica vial with 50 grams of protein in a 3 oz. vial.

    Protica - Detail

I am purchasing the 50 gram profect. It is my understanding that this is thicker than the 25 gram, so I don't know if I will like it. I hope it's not going to be a waste of money. I know that I can drink the 25 gram one that I mentioned above. I am ordering the blue raspberry swirl because that is the flavor I liked in the 25 gram.

I will let you guys know if I liked it.

Even though I can eat solid food now, I still like to drink one profect 25 a day. I hope I will be able to drink the Profect 50 without any problems.

    Ok, for more clear liquids.
I made campbells chicken noodle soup and strained out the noodles and chicken. I preferred this to just a can of chicken broth.

I also bought campbells vegtable soup and strained everything out and drank the broth.

I drank the broth out of ramen noodles. ( I know, high in sodium and not the best choice )

    I ate sugar free popsicles.

I never found sugar free italian ice, but if you can find it, I know some people have, that would be a great yummy clear liquid.

I also drank hot, decaf, unsweet tea. I bought louisianne brand and made it in my coffee maker instead of coffee.

    I drank Crystal Light.

Don't forget just plain old water if you can handle it.

I am not an alumni, but I have been drinking and testing liquids and protein shakes while I wait for my surgery date. If you like wonton soup, order it without the wontons. I also LOVE this chicken stock paste that I buy from whole foods. It is the closest thing I have found to homemade chicken stock. Its name is called: Better Than Bouillon Organic Chicken Base. I also love this protein shake that has 1 g. carb, 100 calories, and 26 g of metal free protein. Its from Whole Foods, product is called Bonnet Whey Protein Isolate. I like it because there is no artificial sweetner in it and I can add my own equal. I use coconut water (the clear type) and BAM! Pina colada....I can drink these all day. Infact, I am

One thing that really helped me was warm decaf tea with a little bit of honey and skim milk. Every once in awhile, I'd add a little bit of cinnamon, and that was really yummy!

    Recipes
I thought it might be a good idea to share some of our recipes here. From protein shakes to soups... Anything you found really nice to eat and good for you at the same time.

Here's one of mine to start off

    Stage: pre-op/liquid

    Mushroom and Onion Soup.

1 Scoop of protein (as directed on tub)
    10 cup mushrooms- sliced
    1 clove garlic-crushed
    1 Onion sliced
1 dash of Worcestershire sauce (to taste)
    1 litre of water
    Parsley and chives (to decorate)

    Instructions:

Add the onion and garlic into the pan. On a low heat add 2 table spoons of water and fit the lid on the pan. Steam until soft.
Add the mushrooms and Worcestershire sauce and stir them in too until they cook off.
Put in the water and boil slowly for 20 minutes. Aim to reduce the liquid by 1/3rd. Add the protein to the liquid.
Either blitz with a blender or sieve off the veggies and drink the warm liquid.

    Gal xx

Hi Everyone, MorefitDiane shared this recipe in another thread. I wanted to post it here so people looking for clear liquids would see it. Diane, I hope you don't mind.

High(er) Protein Jello (NOTE: Regular Jello only has 1g protein in 1/2c)

    1 Box Sugar-free Jello
    1 cup boiling water

Mix and stir until Jello is dissolved

Add 1 cup of either Isopure or Cytomax fruit-flavored clear protein drink (this is where the added protein comes in)

Refrigerate and serve. Each 1/2c serving of Jello now contains MORE flavor and 5 grams of protein!

    Clear liquid diet
    By Mayo Clinic staff
    Definition

A clear liquid diet consists of clear liquids, such as water, broth and plain gelatin, that are easily digested and leave no undigested residue in your intestinal tract. Your doctor may prescribe a clear liquid diet before certain medical procedures or if you have certain digestive problems. Because a clear liquid diet can't provide you with adequate calories and nutrients, it shouldn't be used for more than a few days.

    Purpose

A clear liquid diet is often used before tests, procedures or surgeries that require no food in your stomach or intestines, such as before colonoscopy. It may also be recommended as a short-term diet if you have certain digestive problems, such as nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, or after certain types of surgery.

    Diet details

A clear liquid diet helps maintain adequate hydration, provides some important electrolytes, such as sodium and potassium, and gives some energy at a time when a full diet isn't possible or recommended.

The following foods are allowed in a clear liquid diet:

    Plain water
Fruit juices without pulp, such as apple juice, grape juice or cranberry juice
    Strained lemonade or fruit punch
    Broth (bouillon or consomme)
    Clear sodas or sports drinks
    Plain gelatin
    Honey
Ice pops without bits of fruit or fruit pulp
Tea or coffee with no cream
Any foods not on the above list should be avoided. Also, for certain tests, such as colon exams, your doctor may ask you to avoid liquids with red coloring.

A typical menu on the clear liquid diet may look like this.

    Breakfast:
    One glass fruit juice
    One glass water
    One cup broth
    One bowl gelatin

    Snack:
One cup coffee or tea (without cream)
    One bowl gelatin

    Lunch:
    One glass fruit juice
    One glass water
    One cup broth
    One bowl gelatin

    Snack:
One ice pop (without fruit pulp)
One cup coffee or tea (without cream) or soft drink

    Dinner:
    One cup juice or water
    One cup broth
    One bowl gelatin
    One cup coffee or tea

    Results

Though the clear liquid diet may not be very exciting, it does fulfill its purpose. It's designed to keep your stomach and intestines clear, limit strain to your digestive system, or keep your body hydrated as you recover from a medical procedure or become ready for your regular diet.

    Risks

    Clear liquid diet - MayoClinic.com

Because a clear liquid diet can't provide you with adequate calories and nutrients, it shouldn't be used for more than a few days. Only use the clear liquid diet until your body can comfortably digest other foods and beverages.

If your doctor prescribes a clear liquid diet before a medical test, be sure to follow the diet instructions exactly. If you don't follow the diet, you risk an inaccurate test and may have to reschedule the procedure for another time.

The clear liquid diet purpose for gastric sleeve surgery is to shrink the liver. low cal and low carbs (more important than low cal) will release the fat and shrink the liver which sits on top of the stomach. this is why we have to do this for one or two weeks. At least that's what Dr. Long told me yesterday during my pre operative appt. I have to drink 7 protein shakes per day or else my body will think I am starving and will hold onto fat and dump muscle.
