Refried beans, thinned down. I used canned enchilada sauce and did not add cheese at this stage. You could use some beef broth or chicken broth, also.

I also bought Hormel brand Roas Beef Hash and processed it. I was able to take a few bites. Hormel also makes a corned beef hash that you can do the same thing with, I just don't like corned beef.

1/2 lb. cod fish poached. poaching fish really brings out flavor without all the fat. try this: cook one piece of bacon brown in a pan. remove bacon and leave brown chips in pan, wipe the oil out with a paper towel--all you need is the stuff left in the pan. add about 2T of chopped onions, a fresh thyme leaf, or a 1 T of a seafood boil. cook until opaque and add fish and 1/2 cup of clam juice. simmer for about 5 minutes or until fish is cooked. If you have shrimp shells or lobster shells, throw those in also. At end, finish with about 1/2 cup of milk. Put fish, in smaller soup pot, and strain liquid over fish. blend with emersion blender. the secret is to make that broth strong and the only way to do that is to use shell fish. the next time you buy shrimp or order shrimp at a resaturant, bring the shells home in a doggy bag and put them in the freezer. We eat shell fish at home about once or twice during the summer. i always save the water--simmer down and freeze in old soda bottles.

i'm at the 2 week point (the point my drs call the puree point), (almost) and at that point i'm allowed refried beans, salsa, and sour cream. so i'm going to mix all this together, to make a dip, and i'm allowed wheat crackers, so i'll be dipping them in it.

Today I used spray butter (0 calorie) to spray my pan, poured 1/4 cup liquid egg whites, and made a mini omelet with a bit of colby/jack cheese. It was delicious and filling. and great protein!

    Bloody Mary Soup -

    4 T unsalted butter
    4 celery ribs, chopped
1 med red bell pepper, chopped
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped
    16 oz can diced tomatoes
    4 c tomato juice
    grated zest of one lime
    3 T prepared horseradish
    1 clove garlic, chopped
    1 c vodka
    juice of 2 limes
    1 T Worcestershire sauce
    salt and pepper to taste
    cilantro sprigs, garnish
    lime slices, garnish

Melt the butter in a large, heavy pot over low heat. Add the celery, red pepper and jalapeno. Cover the pot and cook the vegetables over low heat until very soft, about 30 minutes.

Stir in the tomatoes, tomato juice, lime zest, horseradish, garlic, salt and pepper. Cook over medium heat 5 minutes.

Process the soup in a food processor or blender until smooth. Return to the pot and stir in the vodka, lime juice and Worcestershire. Heat until hot.

Ladle into mugs and garnish with cilantro sprigs and lime slices.

I was hoping this thread would have more suggestions for when my time with pureed/mushy food came up, but it looks like it kind of died out! I thought I would be limited in what I could have during this stage, but as my surgeon told me, I could have just about anything you can put in a blender!

For dinner last night, and lunch today, I had an ounce of El Pollo Loco chicken breast (skinless), and an ounce of refried beans. I threw the chicken into the food processor (okay, I placed it!), until it was finely chopped. Because it's pretty dry like that, I used their creamy cilantro sauce to wet it up a bit. It was very tasty, and since I loved El Pollo Loco pre-op, made me feel somewhat "normal"!

Another thing I tried, which I heard about on here somewhere, is corned beef hash and scrambled eggs. I mashed it to heck with my fork before eating it.

Panera Bread has some great (very thick) soups. I put them in a blender and thin down with broth. Last night, I had black bean soup with some beef broth in it, put it in the blender. YUM!
I have found the best protein shake mix - Visalus shake mix. Their motto is, "our shake mix tastes like cake mix" (and it does!!). I cut the recommended mix (2 scoops), add 1/2 cup of water, 3 ice cubes, 3 strawberries, and 1/2 banana. Great shake for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I tried purchasing baby food - bland and not appealing at all.
BTW - The Ninja food processor is the GREATEST!
