Your mother in law is some piece of work Shirley, I remember an earlier post where she was really horrible to you.

This weight loss surgery thing isn't a competition, nor is it a reflection of some personal quality of trying/not trying hard enough after surgery. Fact is that surgery is more effective for some than others and that's not something you can predict beforehand. If we had a hip replacement done and it wasn't as pain-free as someone else's, we wouldn't blame ourselves! Sorry you're struggling, and that you've got someone like that apparently willing you not to do well. If you never lose another pound, losing 80lb+ is a fantastic outcome for your health. I'd suggest a mother-in-law-ectomy would probably be good for your health too!!

Be good to hear from the original poster about how her re-sleeve is going?

LOL....wouldn't that be marvelous? Poof and her ugly comments would be gone! I don't know why I let her get to me so badly. My sister in law is very close to me, she takes up for me but maw in law is just a dummy and don't think before she speaks. My sister in law had the by pass and has lost all her weight but I still don't think she is happy. She looks wonderful but fifteen minutes after she eats something, she is headed to the potty. I just don't think I want to live like that. Yeah, I gained seven pounds since Thanksgiving and Christmas. I got rid of all the crap food I had in the house. I'm back on program and this time I'm going to take care to do more for me! Thank you niamh!

most of our stomachs are the size of a fat pen...I can't remember the stats exactly, but I think they can be stretched 14-51%. If a large bougie was used, that would allow too much food. Others prepping for this, make sure your enquiries are made and that you get a small bougie...I can't remember what mine was I would have to dig through my papers but think it was the 2nd smallest you can get...

I'd like to add...just like our skin, the stomach has a certain amount of elasticity and depending on age, health, etc.....some stomachs can stretch easier than others. It's not a common practice, but it can be done and most are successful from what I can gather.

Best NSV - fitting on a kid's amusement park ride with my 4 yr old grandson!
CFIDS =Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) Also dx with post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia; and chronic gastritis (both sleeve complications). Permanently disabled.
Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.

All of you have eased my mind so much more than you'll realize! I've been so worried about it not being reversible should something go wrong. It's nice to know that there's other things they can do to modify in a sense. I was told that they thought the bypass would be better for me until they realized I take questran for diarrhea then they suggested I might want to consider the sleeve instead. As one of the other people said, I wouldn't want to be running to the bathroom every minute of the day!

I plan to measure my food everytime. I will carry a 1/4 cup with me everywhere I go so if I eat once back on regular food I can measure or weigh my food. I will probably have the RNY but I will know for sure after Tuesday when I see the Surgeon. God bless you all.
