    Default Clutter prblems?

I'm wondering if anyone (that has clutter issues) has found that after they have their surgery, they use their time to conquer it, opposed to eating? I have a severe clutter problem and because it's so overwhelming, I say, "I think I'm hungry." and go eat instead. Since my stomach and appetite will be so small after surgery, will I conquer this? Please say yes!

I had to laugh when I read your post. I had my surgery on October 16th. About a week after, I started organizing and decluttering! I must say that pre surgery, I would have looked at the overwhelming job and opt for a snack instead of tackling the issue. But I can tell you this....my linen closet has never been so organized! My bathroom too. You definately need to take it one day at a time. Don't overwhelm yourself by trying to do everything at once. Plan on decluttering one thing at a time. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

I am laughing too because I actually wrote down all of these little projects that I see that need to be done on little slips of paper, after my surgery I plan to use them to distract myself from wanting to eat. Every time I get the urge to snack, I will pick one of the slips and do the project on that list.

Boy, I can soooo not wait until I'm in the mood to tackle the clutter. It's always been a big issue of feeding my weight. Thanks for the positive feedback.

Peter Walsh actually wrote a book about this very subject, how overweight people are prone to clutter and hoarding issues and that sometimes when they get that problem tackled that they lose weight as well. It was really fascinating and I saw so much of myself in the people he was helping.

Oh my goodness, I saw this and rejoiced! I thought something was wrong with me...I am obsessed about getting the junk out of my house! Do y'all think maybe we are wanting to let go of the stuff we horded because we now know we can let go of the food? Is is the " letting go" that we are comfortable with? I thought I was just getting older and didn't want my kids having to do it after I croak! LOL think of the massive garage sale we could have y'all!.....SLEEVERS SIDEWALK SALE....COME ONE COME ALL......HAHAHAHAHA

I would have loved to have seen that episode with Peter Walsh. I watched a lot of his shows, Clean Sweep (wish it was still on). I love the idea of letting go of food that we can now let go of clutter!!

I used to have yard sales all the time to get rid of all of the crappy ugly fat clothes that I bought and then never wore because they looked so bad. No more yard sales, I just take them directly to one of those donation bins, once I decide I want rid of stuff, I want it out of my sight immediately! Peter Walsh also has a book, I think the title was "Does this Clutter make my butt look big?" or something like that. Look for it on Amazon.

I love throwing things out post-sleeve, or giving them away. It feels like streamlining my house as well as my body. From watching episodes of Hoarders on TV (which always makes me want to clean my house and purge junk) I noticed that people with clutter problems tend to overvalue their stuff and have all kinds of plans for selling it on ebay, at yard sales, making craft projects out of it etc, giving it to friends as gifts etc. In the last few years (in part a result of moving from a big house to a small house and refusing to pay to put useless stuff in storage) I got rid of it all. Maybe five things I sold on ebay and they were worth much less then I thought they were. I am too lazy to do a yard sale, and much of my "valuable" things that I was holding on too at closer look had moth damage, tears, chips, dents and dings. I brought carloads to Goodwill and they gave me a tax deduction slip. I love the decluttering.

I never bother trying to sell things-I figured no one would really want them but I do return clothes if they still have the tags and are within the "return by" window.

I could totally use another wave of declutterings now, though...
