Top 5 reasons to have surgery - confirmed for me

Hi everyone! I've been sleeved for 6 months now and this past week has truly confirmed one of my top 5 reasons WHY I decided to have surgery. My dad who is 90 and a half yrs old fell last Friday night and broke both his hips. I flew back home to Bflo. to be with him when he underwent surgery. He came through surgery well and hopefully will make it through rehab to walk again.

My point here is that one of my top 5 reasons for having the sleeve was as I'm getting older, (54 now) I realized if I kept putting on weight as I was, if I ever really got sick which was most likely to happen down the road, I didn't want to be a burden on my husband and the nursing staff who would have to take care of me, picking up my morbidly obese body and cleaning me, or even trying to walk with all that weight.

Dad has a long road ahead of him to recover. It might seem like a long road for us to get the weight off, but it's so worth it in the end. Now I am 71 lbs down and still losing weight. I can't even imagine being bedridden carrying all the weight I had on my body before surgery. Thank God for the sleeve!

Thank you so much for posting this, just sorry to hear about your dad. Praying is has a complete recovery. My mother turns 80 tomorrow and my dad and my husband's parents are already well into their 80's. They are all in better shape than my husband and I. He had the sleeve on 10-19 and really have a tough time of it. I am going to read your post to him to show why he should be fighting for success.

I too am in my 50's and I knew I needed this surgery to become as fit and healthy as I can be for my "golden years". It's so important to stay healthy in the later years for multitude of reasons. Best wishes!

My top reason was my Dad too he was 59 when he had to have a quadruple bypass. That is some very scary stuff. His surgeon told me if I didn't get my weight off I would be there in like 20 years. That scared me and I was like researching how to lose it and I found the sleeve. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. Now I feel bad for conplaining about not losing weight. Your dad as got it alot worse ill pray he has a fast recovery.

I'm only 24 years old and currently have no health issues. None. But the key word is currently. I weigh a whopping 300 pounds (I haven't weighed myself in a few months so I'll be doing that soon) and I know that very soon, I'll start to feel the effects of my weight other than being tired easier than others.
My Top 3 Reasons To Have The Sleeve:
-My health. I'm not going to get heavier and let my health suddenly go south
-My future child(ren). I'm going to RUN around with them!
-Vanity. I can admit it - I know I'm a attractive woman. I've had total strangers (men and women) tell me. I want to feel beautiful again.

So sorry to hear about your dad's fall and hope that he will have a smooth recovery. You're probably going to be doing a lot of flying back and forth between LV and Bflo. Lot's of extreme weather changes between the two. Be sure to take care of yourself with this added stress ! I had a similar situation about 4 years ago with my mother, going between LV and Central WA. Take care of you!

Glad to hear that your dad is recovering after that unfortunate accident. My Top five reasons:

(1) Diabetes. While i have not been diagnosed with it as yet, my doctor has advised that if i don't monitor it, it will happen. It runs in the family.
(2) Heart Disease. It runs in the family
(3) Career. I intend to change careers and follow my dream of becoming a pilot soon, so the weight needs to come off.
(4) Better standard of life for my future.

I'm very sorry about your dad and I hope he has a full recovery.

1. So my every day BASIC needs don't feel like a process.
2. Health... I'm ok now but my doc said I wasn't going to be very soon
3. Children , unable to have them because of my weight.
4. Be as social and confident as I use to be
5. Looks, I want to feel beautiful like my bf, family n friends say I am.

I hope your dad walks again and can live out his life without pain. I'm glad that you were there, getting healthier each day, to be with him. You have helped both you and him with your decision. Now five reasons to have my surgery coming up...#1: lower blood pressure. (My mother had very high blood pressure and died because of it's detrimental effects) #2: help my breathing (COPD) with less to drag around and being more active. #3: being able to do every day chores and tasks, putting socks on or tying shoes without holding my breath, being able to hike and walk distances while camping, and to sit on the floor with my granddaughter and have have nothing go numb. #4: to take any medical test and come up "normal"...BP, BMI, Fat ratio, cholesterol, etc. #5: to dress to look good and feel good....not just to cover up.
