Nycbiscuit how was you surgrey with dr.dakin....I currenTly work at Cornell hospital and suppose to be sleeve this month with dr.pomp but I'm VERY nervous
Actually, my surgery got bumped at the last minute, and apparently there was no one else available to assist Dr. Dakin, so it was him and Dr. Pomp that did my operation. I guess I lucked out on having so much experience in the room! And my surgery was on a Friday, Dr. Dakin had the weekend off, so it was Dr. Pomp I saw on rounds Saturday and Sunday, and I saw Dr. Dakin on Monday for discharge.
It couldn't have gone any more smoothly. The only real pain I had was the immediate aftermath, moving from OR table to gurney, and I had to switch beds again in recovery, all before the IV dilaudid drip. After that was hooked up I was fine. No gas pain, no incision pain. Of course everyone on 14 was fabulous and attentive and all that I needed. Actually my throat probably hurt more than anything from being intubated.
It was a breeze. I know you can't help but be nervous, but you're in great hands.
Any other questions or concerns, just ask. And good luck!
I'm not really a pic person, so no, I don't have any. It's been 9 months and I'm down 135. More than double that to go (I was over 500). It was like a straight shot the first 5 months, but it's gotten much slower since the new year's -- more of stall/drop/repeat. My goal is 150 by my year surgiversary.
I wasn't really all that scared the day of. I hadn't yet discovered this board or others like it, which, for me, would have probably made me think of too many "what ifs." I was just resolved that I needed surgery, that I didn't really have a choice anymore if I wanted to live and regain any semblance of normal life. I was probably more freaked out by the lousy two day pre-op diet, or thinking afterwards I'll never be able to eat XYZ again. But looking back, it was nothing. Best decision I ever made. And recovery was easy. I know I'm blessed and am quite thankful for that. No complications. But it's my opinion that was largely due to the skills of Pomp and Dakin. I don't think they have the pressure to rush through four or five procedures a day. And the good IV drugs help!
I'm in Midwood Brooklyn, how many others are from Brooklyn?
I'm also in Upstate NY. Lake George area. I chose Dr. Singh at Albany Medical Center. They did a great job. I was very impressed with the program at AMC. I started the process in Oct 2011 and had my sleeve done last Wed, June 20th. I started at 299 lbs and am at 264 today!
