Here's a question I havent seen any threads about. If you flew to Mexico, then how was the flight home? How did you feel, how was your pain, were you able to drink any liquids?

I flew in from Mexico to Fl. There was a 1.5 hour stop in between. Everything went fine. I did not have any pain but I did not want to carry luggage/carry on so I asked for a wheel chair. It made it easier because they get someone to put your stuff between your feet and wheel you around. You also get to board the plane first which is nice because then you can sit up front. My mom went with me and of course she is a worrier so it was her idea to get the wheel chair but overall it ended up helping a lot because of the luggage. While on the plane , I just had a juice I brought with me and water. You may want to ask for a wheelchair in advance just in case because everyone is different with their pain experience. Good luck to you!
I had my surgery on a Monday and flew home the following Friday. I had no pain, no gas, no nausea.... nada! I flew from SAN to Baltimore non-stop which is a 4.5 hour flight. I was able to add protein on day 4 so I bought a Naked Nectar protein shake and was able to take it through security with no problem due to me traveling for Medical. They just tested it to make sure and away I went. I could have flown home a day earlier but I took an extra day so I could visit San Diego. No issues at all!!
If you fly home, please be sure to drink plenty and if possible get some protein in. I flew from Costa Rica to Houston, TX on a 4 hour flight then had a 3 hour layover in Houston. The protein that I had on the plane, I could not stomach and it made me sick so all I had that day was water. Finally my hubby found some chicken noodle soup in the Houston airport and I sipped on the juice. Then I flew to Memphis where my family picked me up. My family had to eat because we were 2 hours from home. I went in the restaurant and everything went black. I passed out and was scared to death. I would not let them take me to the hospital instead they got me to the car and I started sipping on powerade and got back to myself. It is something I will never forget! It was a long day that started at getting up at 3:30 am to get to the airport in Costa Rica and finally home in Mississippi about 8 that night!!!!!!!! I was 7 days post surgery when I flew home.
I flew to San Diego (from Utah) last November, had surgery on in Tijuana on Thursday, spent 1 night in Jerusalem Hospital then moved to the Ticuan Hotel with my husband. Of course I could just be "one of the lucky ones" but other than some fairly minor gas pain and tummy muscles that felt like I'd been punched. I did GREAT! We flew home on Sunday with a hour and a half layover in Las Vegas and I went back to work full time (secretary) on Monday! I did NOT use a wheelchair at the airport...did all my own walking...hubby bought me chicken noodle soup at both San Diego and Las Vegas airports so I could have the broth and had warm tea on the plane. I never did take pain medication other than a few Naproxen the first 2 days. The flight home was NOT a problem!!! JUST BEAR IN MIND HOW MUCH OF ALL THIS IS A "HEAD GAME"... if you "expect" to feel crappy - you will...if you "expect" to do well - YOU WILL!!! Also...EVERYONE reacts differently to all of this. Some say the pain is almost unbearable, others say they throw up, some take weeks off work to recuperate...if you've read very many posts then you know what I'm talking about. You know your own body best and how tolerant you are of pain, anesthesia, etc. If you're hurting or weak you can ask for a wheelchair, the actual plane ride shouldn't be a problem, then if you have help getting your bags at the home end you should be FINE!!!
Hey Jeannie, I had my surgery in Mx, flew to atlanta, 6 hr flight, then stayed in Atlanta overnight and drove 4 hrs to home. I did fine, no problems what so ever. I did bring some chicken boilon packets and kept in my purse, when the stewardist asked what i wanted to drink I asked for hot water, and made myself some broth to sip on. it had protein in it, I took a small blanket on board with me, so I cuddled up and rested. I stayed in Mx 3 days before heading home. I hope that this anwsers your qeustions. good luck to you!
Thank you all! I am one of those people who expect to do well so I probably will! Thanks for all your input! Keep on losing everyone!
