Any chance of a chat?

Forgive me if it's already here and I'm just too thick to work it out, OR there has been previous discussion and a good rationale for why not - but has any consideration been given to a chat room or instant messaging somehow incorporated into the site? Particularly when the little green light tells me that people are on, I often feel like it would be great to have a bit more of an immediate interaction.

I know that sometimes a decision is that chat rooms are much more intensive to moderate, so understand if that's the reason.

I know you can send a person a private message by clicking on their name if that helps any.

A facebook-esque chat would be neat. Only being able to message your added friends and such, that way you can't really bother people who don't want to chat.

We had this in the past, it was very resource intensive on the server and few people used it. We will redesign it and bring it back though, hang in there.

I do a lot of web. If the admin would contact me I have multiple secure chat tools at my disposal. Most are free too!
