Default How much time off work?

    Hi everyone!

Just starting to think about how much time off I'll need to request at work and am curious how long it has taken other people to recover?

I do have a desk job rather than an active job - I assume that will make things a bit easier.

    Anyway, any advice/suggestions appreciated!

    Kathryn

I haven't had surgery yet either, just submitted paperwork .... I too, have a desk job, not a lot of movement at all. My doc says he leaves it up to his patients.... but usually he does surgery on Wednesdays, he said that he's had patients go back to work on the following Monday. I'm going to try to get a couple weeks off, but we'll see, if I can afford to use that much paid time off.

I was told 2-3 weeks. I am planning on having mine done over the Christmas holidays to minimize the amount of benefit time I would need to take off, and use sick leave for the rest.

I am taking 3 weeks off and using FMLA time. I already submitted all the paperwork from my job to the Doctor and got it all turned in to HR. All has been approved. I Drive a bus so there is getting off and on and bouncing around so that is why I chose to take that much time off. Good luck with your surgery!!!

It depends on how you feel. I work in the schools and there was no way I would have been able to go back to work one week later. I had the staples digging in me. The day they were taken out it was a little bit of relief but honestly I was still sore after two weeks. It is three weeks today and I am almost back to normal other than the getting out of bed. Still not able to use my stomach muscles. Driving used more than I thought it would. So don't rush it if you dont have to.

Of course it's best to do what works for your situation/life.
However, I had surgery on Monday the 10th thought to return today the 19th.
But I figure I have FMLA, and Salary Continuation so why rush back? Surgery and recovery were both unevenful.
However, I still needed to rest, clean house, do some other things and get use to this new life change.
So I extended my leave till this Sunday the 23 rd. Plenty of "me time". ;-)

I work a desk job. I had the surgery on a Monday and was back at work the following Monday. I got stuck in the hospital an extra day because of Hurrican Issac but i actually felt good enough to go to work by Thursday but since my office didnt have power i had to wait. I had absolutely no pain at all. They hook you up to a pump for pain meds after surgery and i didn't hit the button once. I did have a lot of nausea and took nausea meds for the first two days but was fine afterwards..good luck

I'm a bus driver too! I'm taking 2 weeks off, but if I need more I have 20 sick days banked so I could take a whole month. I am hoping to be feeling better rather quick though lol.

I was off two weeks. I also have a sit down job. I was tired the first two days but by that Wednesday I was ok. I would suggest 3 weeks just to give your incisions to heal. I had one incision that took 4 weeks to heal the others were all healed before I went back.

Wow! I read all of these posts. Bus driving doesn't seem like a job you can go back to after just 2 weeks. I would be worried about all the bouncing. I work as a labor and delivery nurse. Very hard work. My doctor said I could back on light duty after 2 weeks. Then I found out I would receive disability pay and decided to take off the entire 6 weeks and just take care of me. I have been doing great since my surgery, just a little tired easily. Do what is right for you. Hugs Judy

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm thinking I might try and do three weeks if possible - seems like there's a lot to adjust to in the beginning! Really appreciate your feedback.

I have a desk job as a case manager.. I had my surgery on July 19th in MEXICO and returned to work on following Monday July 23, 4 days after surgery. I'm a nurse so I always feel its better to get up and getting going.. It's in your attitude as well you know you are going to have some gas and some discomfort but just tell youself you signed up for this.. Now lets work with it.. I did not have pain either just gas for about 7 days...Good luck to you
