Psch evaluation

I am going through all the hoops for the surgery. My insurance is champ va. I am so happy to have the same surgeon that my husband did. He is the best surgeon & well worth the 3 hr drive (each way). I went to the semair that is requested, did the online application & got my 1st appt which is Oct 12th. I have to have a psch eval which I'm finding out is not required by my insurance but the dr, So my insurance is refusing to pay for it. Has anyone else had this problem that may have any suggestions.

I would let the Dr. know that your Insurance Co does not require a phyc eval.. BUT the Hospital my require it part of their own insurance.. I would try and find out.. If the hospital has their own internal policy on having future gastric pt attend at least one psych eval..

Psych evaluation is a very integral part of the whole pre-surg prep. Plus, it helps to have a contact in case the post-op blues get a little too much to handle. If you doc works with a psych who specializes in weight loss surgery patients, I would definitely consider taking the extra expense out of pocket, just in case. The surgeon modifies your body, but it's up to you to modify your brain.

had my phyc eval this afternoon, sure was an interesting time. I passed 2 of the test and waiting for word on the big one,hope to hear in a few days. Everyone was so very nice while I was there. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can go on to next step..
