    Default Wedding!...and 6 month update

    Mary B & ME.jpg
It was a wonderful weekend! My son married an amazing woman and we enjoyed every moment. One of the reasons I had surgery was so I could stop hiding in photos and feeling self conscious at events instead of being fully present and enjoying myself. I have a long way to go toward my ultimate goal, but I had lost enough by the wedding to feel great. My new (size 2) DIL is so wonderful and my goal was that she and my son would thoroughly enjoy themselves, which they did. (Picture is me with my new DIL.)

I ate a little of all the great food and even some wedding cake and a glass of prosecco without gaining a pound, but it may be because we danced for 2 hours at the reception. We hosted all the events this weekend (rehearsal dinner, reception & brunch) and I admit the stress took a toll on my eating the last few days. But I still lost 5lbs this month.

I'm losing more slowly than many of you but I plan to keep at it. I've added an hour of exercise in the morning (using a DVD) and hope to get back to tennis and more activities this summer as well. I'm so grateful to all of you here who are truly my support system. Wouldn't have made it this far without you.

Congratulations on gaining a new family member (DIL). It sounds like a beautiful wedding.

I so understand avoiding taking pictures. For so many events when I look back at the pictures I can recall what my weight was on that date better than I can who was at the event. Graduations, births, funerals and weddings are all cataloged in my brain by my weight and the struggle to find something suitable to wear.

Even though you believe you're losing slow, slow can be a good thing. (Think of the Tortise and the Hare) I was a slow loser it took me 16 months to lose 103 pounds. Those 16 months were actually a blessing in diguise. I learned how to eat slow, I found foods that were healthy and met good nutritional guidelines, and I learned how to exercise. I had time to develop a plan to keep the weight off. So on the weeks where you don't lose document what you ate and what you did for fitness, those are the meals and activies that will help you maintain. One of my main go to meals is tuna, steamed veggies, and lemon pepper seasoning. It's low in calories, high in protein, and healthy carbs. I'm able to maintain my weight loss and although not efforless it isn't a struggle.

Keep up the good work and both you and your daughter in law look beautiful!

Congrats on not only the Wedding, but the new you that can approach such a food-centric event with restraint. You have come a long way! You look truly lovely and so joyful with your new daughter!

Beautiful photo Dale! I know that your son is going to be so happy that he has these beautiful pictures with you looking so healthy and radiant. You are doing so well. Never compare yourself to others. You have lost 55 lbs in 6 months. That is great! I also think when you lose a bit on the slower side the saggy skin isn't as bad. Big hugs!

Congratulations on such a happy family event. I hope that I can one day go to an event and not feel like I have to hide away from a camera or be in the back with just my head showing. I think that not feeling self conscious allows one to have more fun and enjoy an occasion. Sounds like it was a great one. Great photo.

Beautiful pic! You look great! Congrats to you all!!

My son is getting married next year and I'm hoping to look good by then. Right now I don't want to go anywhere! I've become somewhat anti social due to my weight.

I know what you mean! I'm an extrovert by nature but the more weight I gained, the more I just didn't want to go out or see anyone I knew. I'd find excuses to skip events I'd normally love to attend. I was so miserable. When my son graduated from JAG school (he's an Army JAG) I hid in all the photos but I got "caught" in one and felt so horrible. Not only did I feel terrible about myself, I felt like I was an embarrassment to my husband and sons. I'm not where I want to be, but at least I'm on the way and now I'm more chubby than morbidly obese. Step by step....

Best of luck on your journey!

I just stumbled across your story. Congratulations on your son's wedding! It sounds like a truly magical and memorable weekend for you and your family. Your journey towards feeling more confident and present in photos is inspiring. I can totally relate to your concerns about attending a wedding and feeling self-conscious. I'll be attending one soon, and I'm worried about how I'll look in a tuxedo.
Speaking of which, I was doing some online browsing recently and came across some cool options for wedding tuxedos. You might find them helpful too. Here's the link: https://www.gentlemansguru.com/product-category/wedding-tuxedos/. As for me, it has a variety of stylish choices.
