Default protein shakes and supplements in australia

    Hi there,
Was hoping to start some discussion about which shakes and supplements you've found and which you like. My partner and I will be sleeved together early next year and since we'll be almost living on these for a while, thought I would ask your advice. Seems to be some crappy ingredients in some of these -- like corn syrup and artificial sweeteners.
I've heard good things about the shakes from aldi. We are a long way from an aldi store (they don't have them in the Territory) but I could stock up next time I go to the Coast. It would be good to find shakes I like that can be ordered over the net.
    Any advice?
    Nel

I use a whey isolate protein, if comes from Aust. I get it in a mango flavour mixed with water it is like drinking fruit juice. There is a great web site (sorry I don't have it.) Hopefully it will be past on to you. Check out The World According to Egg Face. lots of stuff there. Good luck

Joanne and Christy -- thanks for your advice. You've each got a track record to give me confidence.
I've looked at Unjury a few times before because it looks like a good product. There are some people who really don't like it in the reviews, but who knows who wrote them? Could be the opposition. I will have to try it.
Many of the doctors in Oz use Optislim. I know Optislim had a good advertising campaign to doctors with lots of free samples. Not sure there is necessarily anything superior about the product.

Joanne -- I see something called WPI (with an orange body builder on a black background) -- looks like a pretty good product.
    Thanks again,

Hi there Nel. I make my own smoothie using Natures Way instant natural protien. I cut up a banana, add 2 tablespoons of the powder and some milk and then drink it up. It is not as sickly sweet as the optislim or Ensure or Sustegen. I cant stand any of those drinks. I am also taking Elevit multivitamins. So far so good. XXXCoralxxx

Also stock up on Nestles Resource for after the op. I have had to order it from the chemist and it takes 24 hours to get it in, believe me you will need it in order to get enough protein and fluids in. And it is NOT milk based, it comes in Berry, Apricot etc, a little bit more refreshing than the Whey drinks. But as I said most of the time you have to order it in.

Thanks for the advice, Coral and Mini. You're both doing so well!

Coral, you've worked away so much weight and Mini, well, you're 4 days (!!) out and helping people out on the computer. I am impressed by both of you.

Please to see I'm not the only one who doesn't want to ingest all the other crap in some of the protein drinks. Not having the surgery so I can live on a sporty version of junk.

Nel - check out the Metagenics range from a quality Health Food store. One of the diets I have been on is Metagenics - they do protein bars and shakes mixtures. Need to keep it in the fridge but supported by Doctors, Chiro's and the better Health Food shops.

I have used a few....Optifast appears to be the most all round nutrition which you can live on without detriment for long periods. However if you are only looking for protein rather than a proper meal then I am not sure. I actually really really like the Tony Ferguson range....they are my favourite taste wise. Maybe as a dietitian - does your surgeon use one for the Aftercare program? I think there might be difference in Whey protein and other types of protein. I don't think I would be happy to ask a body building shop for advice.

    Thanks RaniL
I am seeing my nutritionist today and will ask her about it.
Hopefully might get to a scale too and see how much more fat has been worked away. It's a powerful instrument this sleeve. So happy I have it.
    Warm wishes,
    Nel
