Sounds like Heartburn or Acid Refulx.... Try chewing on some Tumms... they should provide some relief!

    Good Luck!

Prilosec is not fast acting. The reason we are advised to take it is to reduce the acid in our sleeves. You should consider taking it like your doc recommended.

I haven't had my surgery but get this feeling all the time. I now drink ginger ale but was talking to others on what do after surgery. I have also tried a spoonful of mustard when I didn't have the ginger ale on hand. I was told to try chewing a sliver of fresh ginger and spitting it out. I'm not sure my sleeve nor myself would like the ginger or mustard after surgery guess ill get some prilosec.

Try taking Zantac when you get heartburn because it kicks in 30 minutes after taking it and Prilosec isn't meant for immediate relief - I stopped taking daily Prilosec and now only take a Zantac on the days I get heartburn and I will pop a few Tums (the new smoothie ones are super good and aren't chalky tasting!)

I keep getting heartburn, and feeling like I am going to throw up. I am afraid to take tums because the last time I took them I puked right afterwards.

I get the really warm feeling after eating as well. It passes pretty quickly, but it happens to me quite frequently. I take Prilosec every night before I go to bed, and my doctor's office told me I could take it twice a day if needed, but that's not very often -- I'm already taking enough pills as it is with all the vitamins, calcium, and biotin.
I'm doing "me" this time around.

Just curious...could that be acid refux or just a bit of "back-up" from a full little tummy? I love stuffed grape leaves too but I hear that leafy stuff is hard to digest at first. I was thinking that I wouldn't be able to eat them.

I know that in my case it has nothing to do with food. I get it on an empty stomach most of the time.

Yes, if you have acid reflux, which is normally why they prescribe those types of medicines, you do need to take it daily to insure that you have a constant suppression on the acid in your stomach. If you only take it every now and again you are looking for the medication to suppress the symptoms when there is already an overbuild up of acid in your stomach. Not to mention that your stomach is significantly smaller now, so while you might not have over produced the acid when you stomach was a normal size, the decrease in volume of your stomach does not decrease the amount of acid you are producing. Another problem is that the medication works to suppress the acid vats on the bottoms of your stomach, but in my case of acid reflux, I have additional acid being spued from the side of my stomach as well, so the medicine, in theory, is doing what it is supposed to, it is just not reaching those other areas of acid to keep the reflux under control. That is where paying attention to the things in your diet becomes really important, somethings you just have to give up if you don't want to deal with the aftermath. I hope this helps!

I guess heartburn too. I have gotten it a couple times, always when sampling a former favorite (not particularly healthy) food, especially a fatty food containing meat.
