Approaching 12 weeks post op

Hi,
I haven't posted in a while. My journey has been wonderful. I am doing well with my protein, liquid intake, and exercise. I've gone down 4 dress sizes and if my tummy would hurry and catch up it will be five (LOL). I'm contemplating JOGGING! I've always told people that "this body was not made for running!" I'm feeling bones in my hips and shoulders---who would have guessed?

My struggle is with the mental aspect. How do you shed the "fat girl" mentality? Specifically in regards to relationships. I still "see" myself as that bigger girl. To the mainstream world, I'm still a bigger girl. I'm reluctant to share pictures. I've debated seeing a counselor. So what have some of you done to boost your self esteem during weight loss?

I would recommend a councelor. I have read a great book called The Emotional First Aid Kit. A pracxtical guide to life after bariatric surgery. It is written by a nurse who has worked in this field and she says that it can be a common issue and recommends a counseller or psychologist. Good luck xo

Hi Kris!

Congrats on your weight loss. 4 sizes is wonderful. You are not alone! I would suggest a counselor and the support groups offered through HF. Even though we shed the weight physically our minds take time to catch up. I see a therapist and attended my first WLS support group a couple of weeks ago.

Hi Kris,

Yes I attended the group at the CAM center. I believe the next one is August 28th for the Emotional Support then August 30th for Relapse Prevention. I am planning to attend one of them if not both. My nephew's 21st birthday is on the 28th so I am not sure if I will make that one. We could meet there is you would like. It is a great support group with lots of advice. Dr Eshelman heads it.

Oh and I hear you about the stomach thing. My stomach is just like blah. It is what prevents me from being one or two sizes smaller but I know in time it will shrink. I can't wait to see you!!!!!
