How on earth did I GAIN a pound??

I'm 19 days post op and gaining weight?? What am I doing wrong? It's just a pound but I'm really worried that I'm not going to keep losing. I've been stalled at 22 pounds lost for a week and now I'm up a pound?? What is going on!!! I am watching what I eat and am under 800 calls a day. Yesterday I had protein shake for breakfast, half of a piece of mahi mahi at lunch, a pb2 snack, a homemade low fat crabcake for dinner and a pb2 snack. That's it. Probably not even 700 calories. Yet I gained a pound?? I'm starting to get irritated at the stall and now gain!! Is this normal???? Help!

Stephanie, I feel your pain. Pre- Surgery when ever I would diet there was always 1 week every month when I would gain, no matter what I was eating. Could you be getting ready to start? It was always the week before I would start for me. One week I gained 6 lbs, only to lose 11 the next week. Sometimes being a girl really sucks!

Your body will always fluctuate a couple of pounds because of water retention. Don't let this bother you as it will most likely happen again and again during your weight loss journey. Hang in there. You are doing great!

Just keep on keeping on.
I stalled 10 days after surgery for OVER a month -- but, boy!, did my body change during that time. Back fat most of all but also lost 6 inches on my beach ball tummy. Take your measurements every week on your surgery day week -a- versary and tell me then that nothing is happening.

Patience. I just started losing again this week (week 7) -- so 39 days of partial pound losses and partial pound gains. You can do this! Hang in there -- nothing can survive 600 - 1000 calories/day. Make sure your body doesn't think it's starving though. What got the scales moving again was vacation -- I ate lobster rolls WITH the hot dog rolls, full fat ice cream, etc. I think my body decided I wasn't trying to kill it after all. lol
And, no, I do not continue those eating patterns at home -- it was vacation after all.

Could be that you are not eating enough? Or it could be that time of the month? Not drinking enough water? Don't stress over this......I made myself crazy for weeks by weighing myself every day! I thought that I had to lose at least a pound a day. I had to just hide the scale and now I only use it once a week. I am much happier this way. Do yourself a favor and take your measurements......then measure again each week, the scale may not budge, but the tape measure will

Thank you guys! Great advise. I really need to hide scale and go buy a measuring tape today to start taking my measurements. I feel like I'm smaller but scale doesn't agree. So I will just try to keep doing what I'm doing. Maybe change up calorie intake and start exercising. It's good to know this stall thing seems to be common.

i wudnt worry about 1 pound. it fluctuates day to day with water ,time of month, if youve been for a number 2! lol, u will do just fine

Hello,
I was stalled too at about the same calorie intake. I thought my body thought it was starving so I forced myself to up my calories and increased my walking time. 2 days later I lost 4 more pounds. Also muscle weighs more than fat. Please do not be discouraged.

27 days out and STILL STALLED!!! Ive lost 23 pounds - 12 pre op, 11 post op. That's it!! What is going on!! Ive been trying new foods and raising calories and lowering calories - but no change in the scale! Im thinking time for new scale!!

WHAT GIVES! Im holding onto Gayle's story about her 39 day stall. Maybe that's what's happening to me - but the scale needs to start moving soon!!! And in the downward direction. I know i have not been drinking nearly enough fluids - maybe i will try drinking more fluids and see what happens.

Slimslen I am in a similar boat. I had surgery 7/24 lost 8 pounds preop and 14 post op. With my first week being a 10 pound loss. It is frustrating. Good Luck

well it's good to know we are kinda all in this together! Seems like most people on the board hit a stall not long after surgery. Hopefully ours will break soon and scale will go down more!! Good Luck!!

I gained 5 during three days camping and I know there is NO WAY that I ate over 3k calories the whole weekend, let alone over the 15k+ it would take for me to gain that much so I am just trying to trust that my body will adjust its fluid levels and suddenly I will wake up, have to pee really bad, and be back down those same 5 lbs! I do gain about 3-5 every month before my period, but I got off my period during this trip. Hiding the scale I think!
