Colesterol comes from meat eggs and cheese. However i m sure u r not getting it from the diet unless eat 5 eggs per day.
Sometime is not diet related. Try just tO check the col intake daily using myfitnessPalnand show r diary to the doc

That is surprising. Are you taking any omega 3 supplements to balance out the bad fats you are eating? Fish oil or flax seed oil or even krill oil capsules?

Cholesterol comes to you primarily from animal-based products: meat, eggs, cheese, milk, yogurt etc. I suggest, as someone else did here, that you track what you are eating on MFP pr SP. If your diet is like many I have seen posted in this forum (primarily animal-based proteins), it could certainly be causing the bad cholesterol to run high. Using one of the food tracking websites will help you monitor how much cholesterol you eat and help you reduce it. Substitute vegan sources of protein (beans, soy, nuts, soy milk, and meat alternatives like Tofurkey Italian sausage - yum) instea,d of meat, eggs and dairy, to lower your cholesterol. Sometimes high cholesterol can be genetic, but I would look at what you are eating first. It is always better to fix a problem by eating better than to take a pill. You will feel better also.

High cholesterol can be hereditary. My mom has it and she is a healthy 125 pounds.

Where in NM are you from? I'm in Carlsbad and can't find vegan meat substitues for meat. We do have tofu so I can make stir fries and soups. I can eat lots of beans and legumes or else travel 3 hrs to find something like Tofurkey (which I plan to try when I find it, per your rec) I guess I will have to take an ice cooler with me when I travel and stock up. Could you message me and let me know some of your favorites, so I don't waste my money. That would be such a big help.

Take Niacin(or niaminacide ) and Omega 3 and that will help bring it down.. It's probably inherited based on the low amount of food you are actually eating. It's important to note the ratio of HDL to LDL as well. Did they share the actual numbers with you? I would not go jumping on the Vegan/Soy wagon as new science actually shows that animal fats (in moderate use) are beneficial to health. Best of luck!

The problem is that most people don't use animal products moderately, especially if they are trying to follow a high protein diet. I have seen many posts in the forum where the majority of the daily diet is meat, cheese, yogurt, etc. That can lead to high cholesterol no matter what a person weighs. I am a vegan, certainly don't consider it a "wagon," rather it is a healthy lifestyle choice. I and am very healthy, get high protein and have very low bad cholesterol after becoming vegan. and I also doubt the validity of those "studies" you mention unless I can see the sources and determine who paid for them. The huge meat and dairly lobbies have been filling us full of cholesterol and BS for years, claiming it is good for your health to have all this animal protein when most studies show the opposite. They wormed their way into the FDA, lobbied themselves into the food pyramid, the FDA is inbred with meat and dairy execs, you name it. Not only does animal protein lead to high cholesterol, but cancer and diabetes also. Watch a movie called Forks Over Knives - it is a real eye opener about how vegan and raw foods can turn people's lives around.

Fortunately I live near Albuquerque. I'll PM you with some ideas for places you might find things. I don't know Carlsbad very well, but do understand the limitations on health food in smaller communities.

I am also in a quandary - my cholesterol shot up FIFTY (50) points after my gastric sleeve, and now they want to lay Lipitor on me, which I'm refusing. My surgeon has never heard of such a thing. It's been a year; I got the sleeve after a deadly slippage of my lap band caused emergency removal, so it's not like I was eating much differently than after the surgery. I do not want cholesterol inhibitors in any way shape or form. Has your doctor seen this before?
