Arrow Gastric Band to Sleeve Revision

I am having my revision surgery on April 25th. My original surgeon, Dr. David Kim (located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area) will be doing this surgery as well.

I had band surgery in September 2009. I lost 80 pounds, but over the past 8 months or so I have gained almost 30 pounds back. Over time it has become difficult to eat a variety of healthy foods. I have this awful tight feeling when I try to eat anything with substance. What is so weird is that this feeling is way high - just under the dip in my throat. I can hardly eat any fruit or vegetables. I have been eating WAY the wrong foods. Anything that will go down easy - I end up eating lots of soft high calorie high fat foods - foods that have never really appealed to me.

My surgeon told me that I have a side effect of the band called dysphagia (uncoordinated swallowing). He told me that revising to a sleeve would take care of the problem, but at the same time he said that I should count on losing much weight. I am really discouraged right now. I am a self-pay patient and feel like a made a mistake when I chose the band. At that time though the sleeve was still considered experimental. But, in any event, I now have to spend even more money to hopefully fix the problem and hopefully lose more weight.

I kinda of have that same story in 2003 I had the band, but in 2007 something terribly went wrong but my Doc would not admit it was a mal-postion band. So I had to have it emergency removed (Now) in 2011 I gained every bit of weight back and I'm miserable. So I'm going to have to self pay my new Dr. becuz my ins. only covers once in a lifetime that suck and I had did all sorts of appeals with the ins. But no such luck ,So now I have to spent 15,500. for the sleeve. But I'm sure it will be worth every penny. Best of Luck to You..

I am a band to sleeve conversion patient. My band slipped and I became sick, everything I ate made me throw up and so on March 21st I was converted to the sleeve. I had my band done in 2007 and lost about 100lbs from it and after my slip my band had to be completely opened up and I gain almost 30lbs back right away, since I had my sleeve done on the 21st I have lost over 20lbs. I think it is worth and I know at the time I had the band done it was the best decision for me, I have no regrets. It has to be incredibly hard when you are self paying, but it will all be worth it in the end.
