    Default 10 Days Post-Op

I am 10 days post-op and struggle with getting my fluids and protein in. I tried 1 protein shake and got so sick I haven't tried another. What are some easy to get down shakes that taste good? On a good note I am down 16lbs in my 10 days, so I'm thrilled about that!! Also, any tips on how to beat the head hungry when fixing my family meals? My husband works off-shore so I am home with 4 kids that still like to eat.

I find that certain shakes make me nauseous (ie Atkins which I actually liked pre surgery). Maybe you could try different kinds of shakes?

What else have you been drinking? Even though I used to chug it pre surgery, I have a hard time with water now. Crystal Lite has been wonderful, though. I just sip, sip, sip all day long. Getting all my fluids in has helped with the head hunger, though my son is old enough to cook for himself and I haven't wanted to test myself yet. Before long, I will be back to cooking for both of us, though, so hopefully I'll be able to handle it.

When do you get to have real food? Are you on pureed yet?

I tried the Oh Yeah!!! Protein. It tasted really good, but man, it made me so sick. I sip all kinds of different drinks, water, water with splash of juice, powerade zero, tea... Maybe I need to be more aware of how long it is taking me to drink? My follow-up appointment is tomorrow so I will find out more about advancing my diet then. Right now I am on Full liquids, which really the only thing I have added has been yogurt and milk because I hate cream of anything soups.

Eleven days out here. I have been putting unflavored whey isolated protein in cream soup and sugar-free pupding. I have akways hated cream soups but they have been my BFF this past week...cream of celery is my fav. Home-made protein shakes weren't working for me either. I did buy some Muscle Milk light today--it is okay--but will be great for work next week since it is pre-mixed. Try Gatorade2-it may be easier to drink than water and will help with your electrolytes.

My nutritionist told us that injury (for burn patients and WLS patients) was really good! They have their website, that you order off of. She also said Atkins was really good also.

Have you tried Isopure I like the grape frost and it was easy to get down as long as it was very very cold. I do not like the unjury unflavored. What about broth?

I have tried the isopure. It takes a lot for me to get it down. I've tried a few different flavors and I have to mix it with water and juice which helps. I will have to go try the muscle milk and adkins and see if I can tolorate those. Thanks!

If you go to a Vitamin Shoppe they have a cooler section you can buy singles. I bought something new that was grape flavor that had way more of a kool-aid taste then the isopure but again only good if very very cold. It is great cause you can try some of the newer things in singles. I have a feeling you will be released to soft foods and more when you go to your appointment. I was released on day 7 during my follow up to my suprise. Dr Bin a and Laurent are on the same standard plan so you might get lucky and get to try lunch meat! =)

Oh, I think GNC lets you taste samples before you buy them, too.

This is my morning protien shake tastes great and 40 grams of protien 2carbs 265 calories. 1 bottle of vanilla shake adkins advantage low carb, then 1 scoop of isopure cookies and cream 2 pieces of ice, in the magic bullet 10 seconds blendings 3 times. Makes a delicious cookies and cream shake! Tastes great and 40 grams of protien in first thing in the morn.

Where do you buy the isopure cookies and cream? I also have another question my dr said I should not have shakes over 20 grams of protein because they body won't process over 25 grams at a time. Anyone else's dr say anything like this? Just wondering if it is true

I ordered it online, well the protein shake takes over an hour to drink.

Yes they taught us that in the Kaiser class, anything over 25 grams at once doesn't get processed, my Dr gave me samples of Costco's Premiere they are delicious and 30 grams so i asked him about the 25 grams, he said your body always only processes a certain amount at a time if you eat chicken with 20 grams your body only processes 15 grams, but with whey protein the max is 25 but if I like them and can get them down the extra 5 is just a loss which is ok, I do like them only ones I found I can drink.
