    Default Feeling weak still....

So I had surgery 15 days ago and have been trying to walk. In the hospital it was no problem to walk for 15 - 30 min. At home I try to walk and end up feeling like I'm going to pass out. I get so weak I have to take a nap just to rejuvinate myself. I live in Texas and it is really hot morning and night so is that the problem, or am I trying to walk too far? I try to walk 1-2 miles.

Kodakmom - don't look at distance, go for time. If you need to do 2 30 min session to get your walk in, then do it. I started going to the mall to walk. It's too dang hot in Tx to walk outside this time of year. Sometimes I would take the dogs for a 30 min early morning walk, but tats all I could take in the heat. The heat on top of the surgery may be affecting you. It's so much easier at the mall.

You're still so early out of the gate from surgery. It's great you're up and walking, but don't push it too much...there's plenty of time for that when you do have more energy. Take it slow and as another post here said, try for time, not necessarily speed right now. It took me a good couple of months to fully get all my energy back. One day at a time and each day is different while you're getting used to your new sleeve. Some days you've got more energy than others. Good luck.

I bet it's the heat that is making you so weak. I live in NC and discovered that when I went outside to walk or just work in my yard, I would get weak and shaky and feel like I was going to pass out. When I walked inside on my treadmill, or just around the house, I was fine. I'm in my 4th week post op, and some days, I still don't have much energy, but it is improving. Don't try to do too much or overdo, and you'll continue to get stronger. Good luck!

wow 1-2miles only after surgery? ARE YOU NUTS?? omfg
any major surgery and Doctors tell you hey no lifting etc.... for 6 weeks!! So why would you attempt to walk 2 miles?? how bout just walking frequently around the house at first. Then maybe 1/2 a block in evening time after it cools down. Take it easy for a while let your body get out of shock and adjust to everything it is dealing with let it heal. Sleep extra slow down. please take care of yourself

I think taking it slow is a good idea as well. Everyone heals differently so, I would recommend listening to your body. I was able to return to work 21 days post surgery but, have had some difficulties along the way. I get tired very easily still and sleep 10+ hours a night to rejuvenate. I'm hoping to get back to the gym for strength training at 6 weeks if I can tolerate it. My surgeon told me that lethargy/weakness is common for the first 6 weeks. Between 6-8 weeks, you will begin to feel like a new person as the weight comes off and the diet changes. I sure hope so! Good Luck!

I'm 12 days out, and just try to get out and around and keep up with the house and my daughter. She knows if we go do something, I'll be napping for sure. There has been no pain, but no energy either. I'm looking forward to my doctor saying I can walk in the pool where it won't hurt my knee as much.
