Default Any other FitBit users out there?

I have had a FitBit for a month or so and love it. Its great for seeing "proof" that I walk enough each day (or NOT).

But I have no "friends" to link to (it lets you see each others progress etc to keep tabs on each other and help encourage). Anyone else with VSG or going to have use one and want to be fitbit friends?

    Fascinating!

I've never heard of it either, but it looks super cool. I may have to get one!

It is really neat if you like to see numbers! You can also log food and stuff, but so far I just use it to track activity, sleep and weight/body fat. Its neat to look at the chart at the end of the day and see where all my activity was ("Thats where I had a meeting at work", "that was shopping", etc). Plus you can press the button anytime and see steps taken, miles walked, calories burned and a pretty little flower that grows as you are more active (and gets harder to grow over time).

If you get one, let me know and we can be buddies

you go to the users public profile and click add as friend (i think - i dont have any!)... My public profile is : Fitbit Profile

There is also an "invite friends" link but I think that just goes by email address to get more people. Anyway - try the link above!

I used the bodybugg and am considering the Fitbit. The bodybugg seems more accurate it uses GPS rather then counting steps and gives you a great report but has a monthly membership cost. I am torn between which one to do now that I am post sleeve. How hard was it to get an accurate count of your steps? When I do my walks my speed can fluctuate between 1.5 - 4 mph depending on whether I am climbing a hill, walking on a straight away or walking downhill and wonder if the Fitbit can adjust to that.

The FitBit uses Wii technology. Its been very accurate for me. I have used it in "activity mode" where you turn it on right as you get on the treadmill and turn it off activity mode when you get off, and the distance calculated was exactly the same as the treadmill said (i vary speeds a lot). For me price and discretion were why I chose Fitbit over bugg or others I looked at. Its $100 to buy it, nothing more. Website is free (they have a premium section but i dont have any interest in that level of detail yet!). Its also very small. I clip it to the middle of my bra and forget I am wearing it. At work I check my steps whenever I go to the bathroom - helps me remember to step it up a bit if needed. It syncs as soon as I walk into my office at home (within 15 feet of the base). so the website is always pretty caught up. I can also view it easily on my phone (though it wont sync until I go home - but can enter activities etc).

My first FB died, and the customer service is hit or miss. SO save your receipt just in case. They did send me a replacement, after I created a little video showing them what it was doing wrong, so I am all set now, but if they hadnt I already had the Amazon return label ready.

It is mostly a fun gadget, and I use it as a comparison more than actual numbers (i.e. compared to yesterday did I walk more? is my flower growing today? etc). No clue how accurate their calorie estimations are. I log my weight and BodyFat in there daily just to see the charts. It calculates BMI for you.

My next gadget purchase, once I am ready to let myself spend the money! is a Withings scale. Its $150! It not only calculates your body fat, muscle mass, water %s and BMI (my current scale does all that and was only $20 from costco), but it has built in WifI! So no more charting it by hand - as soon as you step off, it uploads the data! Another reason I chose Fitbit is because it is supposed to be compatible with that scale - so eventually my weight and other info will be automatically uploaded daily to the website (I weigh myself every morning before I get into the shower, and record all the numbers on a clipboard hanging there! I know.. I know... ).

Oh the Fitbit is also more like a pedometer than the bugg. It is not good for swimming or stationary bikes since your body isnt moving and it doesnt do heart rates or anything. So its not for everyone - read through their FAQ for more info. For me, its just another fun little tool to keep me motivated and seeing progress on a larger scale than just, well the scale! For $100, thats all I need!

Thanks I really liked having the bugg and having the charts but like you the price was so off putting. I'll look into it again.

I have the bodymedia fit (v3?) of the bodybugg and I really like it - with a few exceptions. It's summer. I spend a lot of time in the water. It doesn't do water. It's inaccurate on its step count if I am pushing the kids in their stroller, but it does detect the effort. It doesn't detect effort on weight training.

I really agonized for about 2 years about buying it because of the price. Then I agonized about whether I should get the bluetooth version and didn't. I might regret that later, but there wasn't an app for my phone and I'm not due for a new one until next year. The web cost isn't that much if you pay yearly.

I had a Caltrac (paid $38) and while it did a decent job of tracking movement, it fell off all the time.

I've salivated over the bodybugg for years but the cost is just too darn much. I like the fitbit but wonder if it would be a little but too basic... a fancy pedometer really....??

Hey! I posted this on the other thread but figured i would cross post here in case someone reads along later

I love mine for the motivation. Its not as fancy as the bodybugg and may not be incredibly perfectly accurate, but if it says 5000 steps today and 10000 tomorrow, I know I did good I wear it on my bra usually too. They need better instructions, took me awhile to figure out the "sleep" mode is the same as "activity" mode. You hold the button down until it says start. Then when finished with your activity (sleeping), you hold it down until it says "stop". It seems to know the difference and will put it in your sleep section that day. I bought one for my son and my father too. The new ones also track stairs (I think the plum one is one of those). Feel free to friend me on their site - my profile is:

    Fitbit Profile

You should be able to add as friend somehow from there. There is also a WLS group and a sleeve specific group you should be able to see on my page too. Its small and not lots of chat, but there is a "leaderboard" if you are at all competitive about things

Good luck with it! Keep your receipt - it has a warranty for a year. I am on my third - the first one lasted 2 weeks, the second (refurbished one they replaced it with) lasted 2 months. This time they sent me a new one, so hoping it lasts longer - my son and dad's has been fine. Their customer service is not incredibly fast at responding... Just be aware and remind them occasionally if you do have issues
