How many days post op in hospital?

4 days! I'm currently in shock that my sleeve sx is in 4 days! Wow time flies. So wondering how many days fellow sleevers are staying over night in the hospital post-op? I was told 1 or 2. I'm hoping for 2 it's just so crazy at home with a 7year old daughter, 2 goldens and 3 cats! No peace and quiet! Also anything else I should know or bring with me to the hospital? Thanks

I was sleeved on March 15th, I have a 7 yr old and a 2 yr old... My doc gave me the choice to stay or come home, like yourself I thought for a spilt sec hmmmmm should I stay? My kids missed me and knew mummy had an operation on her tummy. Was nice to be home but really get all the rest that you can before having to deal with normal stress! Your gonna do great! I had my surgery on a Tuesday out of town. I was released on Friday evening, but asked to stay in that town for one or two more nights. I only stayed one then went home. I just had a cat and a husband at home. I usually suggest to people with lots of kids or a kinda crazy lifestyle to wait to go home. However, my friend just had a full bypass w/ her gallbladder also removed and they let her go the next day. She returns to 4 amped out kids, 2 house guests and a husband, all during Spring Break. Glad I am not her.

HI - My surgeon in Australia recommended 3 nights but I chose to stay 4 so that I was totally at ease with everything when I went home. Ask any questions on the forum - someone will have any answer for you. Good luck - I'm 13 days post-op and it's fabulous, Sheryl

I was sleaved the 28th. I stayed two days and it was worth it. No pain meds and no nausea. Helps you get a little more established.

I was sleeved on 3/24 and I stayed 2 days, I feel great! I would suggest bringing chapstick or lip gloss to the hospital with you. You cant eat or drink anything the day before or the day of, and your lips may get dry (mine did)!

I stayed three nights, but only because of an issue with my potassium levels being too low on the second day, and then with a cardio issue the second night (heartbeat slowed down too much...it was due to all the meds and my sleep apnea and not using the CPAP machine in the hospital). My dr. said most patients go home the next day, but I was special, ha! No issues since then, and I don't need the CPAP machine any more!

I'm paying for mine out of pocket and staying one night, however, I'm such a worry wart that i would like to stay another night to be safe! I'm not sure how to approach that. Do i tell the surgen that I want to stay and find out how much it is? BTW I live about 2 hours away form where i'm having surgery. NO ONE in my town does the sleeve so if something happens, Im 2 hours away from the hospital and dr that did my sleeve????

I had mine in an outpatient surgery facility and went home the same day, to husband and 3 easy going boys. Surgery at 8:30, out of surgery about 9:30, walking the halls at 10:30, home around 2:00. Worked out fine for me, no issues.

I stayed in for 3 days - my hospital want you to stay in that long to give enough time to check for immediate leaks which tend to happen with the first 72hrs. Glad I stayed in but by the last night and day I was dying to go home to my own bed!

I had my surgery on the 30/03 and stayed 4 nights in hospital. I was physically ready to go home after 3 but wasn't comfortable with not drinking and eating well. I wanted to know that I had it down pat before leaving.

Both the hospital staff and surgeon was supportive for me to stay longer.

Everyone is different in how they recover. Take it as it comes as only you can tell if you are ready to go home.

I was in for 2 days ... Surgery on Wednesday, home on Friday. I didn't have any pain (thank god, I'm such a wuss) and was actually back to working (from home) on Sunday.

Do what your body tells you is OK to do ...
