How many days post op in hospital?

Haven't had my surgery yet , but my surgeon has told me to expect to stay in hospital between 3-5 days depending on my recovery. I'm hoping 3, but will be happy to stay 5. I am self pay & have fixed price treatment so it won't cost me more to stay. I'm sure I will be stir crazy but safety first.

I simply cannot imagine the need to stay 3 days in the hospital let alone 5????? I was home in three days and working the day after surgery from my hotel room, back to regular work with my clients within 5 days of surgery. Maybe it's cheap to stay in the hospital but with self pay I can't imagine paying it.

I do know that the UK process is a little different to other countries & I won't be released to go home until all post op drains have been removed & tests come back, we don't have recovery houses or hotel stays after surgery, that seems a little strange to us Brits. All countries hospitals & surgeons do things differently.

WHOA! If I am doing the math right that's 24 thousand USD? Mexico is 4500 in some places, 9000 in others. I had surgery on a Thursday morning, the port / drain was in til Saturday morning and I flew home. I chose to go to the hotel because I wanted my privacy and hated the one nite in the recovery hotel. Oh well I guess as long as it works for you then best of luck

I stayed 4 days. I was very weak coming home and then slept for a few days. I did not tell anyone anything.

I have not had surgery yet, probably not until January 2013. The place I am going to is an hour and half from my house. My medical insurance is paying 80% of the bill. The charge is going to be $12,000. I will stay overnight. I chose this facility because they do diatary counceling and have a 24 hour emergency room with a gastric surgeon there.

I had mine done in St. Joseph, Mo. Dr Hornsbustel did mine. He is great. You must come to our support group. They meet every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. They meet from 5-6 at Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph. Good luck on your surgery and keep in touch.

I had my op on the tuesday...left hospital on the friday. Perfect amount of time to recover I found

No overnight stay for me! Wheeled in at 10am, sleeved by 11, home to my hotel room sometime around 4pm the same morning. Of the surgeon's siz cases, I was the third one worked on, and first one home.

Wow some of you were done and released same day? I was on morphine for 3 days. I was sleeved on the Monday and home on the Wednesday at about midday. I couldnt move on the 1st day. Wow some of you are good at recovering.

I spent 1 night in the clinic and 2 nights in the Marriott hotel.

I was in for only one night but wish I could have stayed more. I remember I didnt want to leave the safety and comfort of all the pro's...Stay if you can otherwise you will lose some valuable experienced help. Remember theres blood clots and other things that could still happen. It's just good to sleep through a lot of the recovery...

I'm doing mine in Korea and they hospital says 5 days. I will probably stay the entire time as if I'm home my wife will have to look after my whinging @$$...Plus I think it would be better to have someone helping both of us learn everything we'll need to learn for my new life.
