I had surgery on the 14th and was home in the afternoon of the 16th. It was a long 2 hour drive back home but im glad to be home.
I am also a cash pay. My total payment includes 3 nights in the hospital although we don't have to stay all three. Of course, we don't get any money back if we leave early either. I am three hours away from the nearest doctor who performs the surgery so I understand your fears. Good luck.
I was sleeved on a wed morning, and was discharged Friday afternoon, I kinda wish I would have stayed an extra day , my nurses were awesome , and i felt pampered .
Hi I am considering a Gastric Sleeve as I am 18 stone and 5ft 4inches, I love food and don't have much if any will power, so feel this is an option, a friend has had full bypass and I am not sure if I want to take as much medication as her, so thought the sleeve a better option.
I had my surgery on a Monday morning and was released 24 hrs later. I went home to an energetic 3 1/2 year old but she was GREAT; she was very careful not to hurt Mommy's tummy. My husband's car broke down the next day (Wednesday), so I had to drive to my daughter's daycare. It was uncomfortable but I made it. I returned to work the following Monday.
I had mine last Friday and was home on sunday afternoon. I went to DR today for one week and 7 lbs down and my sugar is greatly improving. I am now on stage 2 YEA!!!. I took my own shampoo and soap. I also brought a pair of very loose pj's. Also bring books or a laptop. GOOD LUCK
I haven't had my surgery yet, but am scheduled for 23 hour outpatient. I am self pay, and this is an option the hospital & doc offer to save out of pocket costs. Staff at both the hospital and doc's office say his outpatients always make the time, no admits. I'm also back to work in 7 days.
Hi Suziein in Texas,
I was in the hospital for 3 days. But my insurance paid for my surgery. If you are able to walk on a treadmill? Do it for at least 30 to 45 minutes everyday till your surgery. This will give you strength for post opt. 7 days is going to rough to go back to work. I hope you have a sit down job. You will still be on liquids at that time and may feel weak. So be careful. Try to really take the best care of yourself, this is a huge transformation and a great thing you are doing for yourself. You really need to rest and just pay close attention to your body after the surgery. Good luck! I'm at goal weight and I and soooo happy with my body and my health.

Have been told it is an average of 3 nights by my surgeon but 4 is not uncommon. He said 2 night sometimes for those patients who are itching to go (and doing really well).
I am happy to stay in as long as needed. I know I will be looked after there, I am a bit of a worrywart so would prefer not to come home alone!
Costs don't seem to be as big an issue in Australia vs. America by the sounds of it? My health cover means I can stay free in a private hospital as long as needed in a 2 person room and it's $68 per night if I want a private room - which I do!!!
