I'm paying for my surgery too and my NP told me that I would have to stay overnight. She also said I could go back to work in a week since I'm working for a temp agency and need the paycheck. My surgery will be sometime in May 2011.
My surgery was Feb 10, 2011 and I was in the hospital 4 days. They got us up to walk 4 hours after the procedure. I was on liquids for 2 weeks. off work for 4 weeks. I did get sick 2 weeks into my recovery...C-Diff and Pancreatic episode. Was back in the hospital for 7 days. They did take very good care of me, and when I went home I was eating soft foods. Its has not been easy for me but Im finally eating good and loosing weight. Im back in the gym working out. Its been all most 3 months and I finally feel like myself again.
I had my surgery on this Monday May 9th, 2011 around 1:30 pm and went home on Tueday the 10th around 12:30 noon. I only had nausea post op (anesthesia), but I was fine after that. I only took a lilttle of Dilaudid with Zofran and had no problems. I hope this helps.
xoxo
one day only.
in on tuesday morning, left wednesday night
Congratulations Mike, you look great
My doctor said to plan for 2 days but it all depends on how I feel mostly I think they keep you to moniter and make sure the staples aren't leaking or anything. Has anyone had problems post-op with staples leaking?
Could you stay nearby in a nice hotel for a couple extra days? If there were complications, you would be nearby to the hospital/doctor. If there are no complications, around $100 per night out of pocket would be better than thousands a night in a hospital.
I was also was an out patient. Went in at 5 :30am and home by 4pm. Was in pain but in my bed
I noticed your start weight is the same as mine and I am considering sleeve over band. My bmi is 31 what was yours if I may ask?
Passed personel goal weight of 135 in 9 months! Wow!

I am so impressed with the people who do this outpatient, cudos to you!!!! I stayed 2 nights. I thought I was a total wimp to have to stay 2 nights, but it sounds like several others stayed that long. I did feel a lot better later in the afternoon the day after surgery. They kept forgetting to give me pain medication so I was awake too much to feel the nausea. finally got a good nurse who said I wasn't getting enough pain medication who knocked me out and then I felt much better hours later. One overnight would have been fine, but I was happy they kept me one more night. I also had a 2 hr drive home. Bring a long comfy dress or something that is very loose around the waist.
I was sleeved on March 15th, I have a 7 yr old and a 2 yr old... My doc gave me the choice to stay or come home, like yourself I thought for a spilt sec hmmmmm should I stay? My kids missed me and knew mummy had an operation on her tummy. Was nice to be home but really get all the rest that you can before having to deal with normal stress! Your gonna do great! Keep us posted
I was out in 48 hours! I had another night booked but didn't need it as I was up and about and drinking well.
