Red face Nervous about pending conversion!!

Hello...I am a former gastric bypass patient and am now going thru the process of hopfully getting it converted to a gastric sleeve. I'm not afraid of the surgery, and I trust my surgeon completely MY hang up is the pre-op liquid diet!!!
I get very hungry about every couple hrs and this is going to be a very big challenge for me to be on clear liquids a week or 2 before. I had my psych eval and have started the nutrition classes so the ball is rolling but the pre-op diet is so causing a great deal of concern for me.
Advice anyone? I'd love to hear about everyones success with this surgery also.
    Anxiously awaiting your replies.

Hi there and Welcome. I am from Australia, so our pre+post ops are different as they are from Dr. to Dr.
I had to do 4 weeks ( which is unusually long) of Optifast shakes and was allowed 2 cups of non starchy salad veg for one meal which I use to have at night.
At first, yes I was hungry but after about day 3-4, the hunger lessened. Your body just adapts to it.
I would suggest you take it slowly, drink lots of water, keep yourself occupied and congratulate yourself every meal. Take it meal by meal and soon you will see day by day go by and realise that this is NOT forever.
We are all here for you and you can come and talk, shout , cry, scream to us when ever you feel like it.
By the way, the upside of the pre-op is the head start into the weight loss, I lost 13 kilos, 28 lbs.
All the best and don't stress.
    cheers from Sandy

When I was on my liquid diet I drank lots and lots of water along with eating ice. Eating the ice helped me with wanting to eat all the time. My advice is to take it one day or even one hour at a time. Good luck

    Hi WJA3507,
Have you tried hot broth? That really saved me. I was SO hungry all the time on a liquid diet before the Patient Liaison at my doctors office suggest the broth. I like Turkey the best but try them all and see what works best for you.

Good Luck! You'll get there. I am just coming off a total of 5 weeks of liquid diet (2 weeks prior to surgery and 3 weeks after surgery). I never thought I'd make it either. It gets easier.

    Take Care
