    Question Post Surgery Pregnancy

The main reason I chose the sleeve was due to the absence of Mal-absorbution, which would make a future pregnancy a lot safer.

Are there any veteran sleevers that have conceived and carried a child post-sleeve? I would appreciate hearing from you about your experiences.

Were there any special diet considerations while you were carrying?
Were there any physical restrictions or bed rest orders placed that otherwise would not have applied?
Did you gain much weight while pregnant and what is/was it like trying to re-lose the "baby weight"? (This one is HUGE for me since I gained 60 lbs in my one and only pregnancy.

I know that I'm more than a year away from trying to conceive, but my mind is always charging ahead to the next step.

    Thanks for sharing ladies!

Well. My first appointment ever they asked me what I was doing to NOT get pregnant. I was like (in the most guilty way)...uuuuhhh, who, pregnant? What, uuuhhh I don’t know...why do you ask? I was then told to get pregnant within a year and a half after surgery was the dangerous because of the whole lack of nutrients/ stretching pouch kind of thing. I then asked her well what if I want to have a baby in the future…she tells me when the time comes to make sure my OB knows about my sleeve so that the correct combination of prenatal vitamins (which may need to come in a liquid form) can be administered and monitored more regularly to check for absorption.

Don’t know if that helps at all….

I know a lady who is in her 2nd post op sleeve pregnancy and she is 3 years post op. First baby was healthy and so far she is doing great with this one! On the facebook group, achieving through sleeving, she is a member. Join that group and then ask about pregnancies. She will certainly chime in for you.

To be healthier when my husband and I decide to start a family was one of my main motivators, too. As far as I understand, it is recommended you wait 18-24months post-op. By then (and long before then), you'll be able to eat normal food. We'll just have to make sure we choose healthier foods over other options during that time (which we should be doing anyways, hopefully!). Vitamins and everything else will be like normal. Pills will be okay then. I'd say it's safe to let your OB know your situation, and they can determine if you're lacking anything, which you can make up for with supplements.
