Default why is it that ppl like to tell you about their friend that died?

I just wonder if yall have been hearing the "death" stories? If I mention Im getting sleeved...theres always a person who tells me about a friend of a friend that had gastric surgery and died..ugh. I know there is that risk but I do believe that risk is much smaller now..especially with a good surgeon. Have any of you had this experience?

I always turn around and tell them that I know of 2 people who died from the complications of being overweight. Personally, I think the risks are in my favor!

I also tell people that the risk of dieing during this surgery are far less than the risk of continuing to live the way I was. Any surgery is a risk but then so is driving your car but we aren't going to stop driving just because someone MIGHT hit us are we?

I think we all "associate" when we hear new things...that's what starts the one-upping conversations...people hear a familiar word and associate to something in THEIR experience and just blurt it out... I call it WF: without filter. But, just so you know I know 4 people who have had WILD success with gastric surgery!!

I just heard this today, but it was followed up with the fact that it was years ago and it was so new back then. There's always someone that is going to try to talk you out of it. It can be anything from concern for you or in some cases jealousy of you. In the end we just need to do what's right for ourselves. All surgery is risky. Now I just need to listen to myself on this!!

Not me and this is because I had limited people that I told. You are right some people throw that in but I don't know if they are trying to be helpful or just don't want to see you doing better. I'm going to move on and enjoy my tool. Foot I could die many ways right. By George before I go I will have know what it is to feel good about myself again.

When cesarean sections were first utilized women died too because the education wasn't there. Similar situation, when medical procedures are new and surgeons are new people may die. Since we are in 2013 and this surgery has been around awhile...I think we are good to go. So I would ask that person "if you need a cesarean surgery would you not have it because someone died in the early stages of use? "

That's why I don't mind sharing about my Sleeve surgery to anyone who asks how'd I lose this much weight (so far). I want them to light up when someone else they know says they're thinking of this surgery, and I want them to say, "Great! I know this woman who is doing wonderfully after surgery!"... I asked my surgeon in the first interview point blank, "How many deaths have you had since you began this type of surgery?". "Zero". And you're right, being morbidly obese is almost a death sentence. We have done an amazing thing!

And by the way, my doctor emailed me today after a blood test and literally said, "Congratulations! You are NO longer diabetic!". This surgery saved my life. Good luck out there!!

I get the double whammy..Not only WLS but going to Mexico by myself. Huh, I live near Los Angeles...no body cares a rat turd if I drive to LAX by myself. But the misconception of traveling to Mexico gets them. People will form their own opinions based on their limited knowledge of a subject. Just have to ignore it or take the time to educate them.

I have no figures but more people likely die crossing the street than getting sleeved. If the person can't name the name of the person than I consider that information Bull-pucky! Yes, it is surgery and there is an associated risk but heart disease, diabetes, and so many other obesity related deaths scared me much more than dying on the table. Now I am almost 2 months out and my old clothes are literally hanging and falling off of me due to the weight I've lost. I feel better and with far less pain in my joints than before.

I am happy to report that I plan on living a very long time with my sleeve and much longer than I would have without it.

Because there are many people who are idiots. I have had people tell me this too, and they are usually very obese and do not want to consider this option and are angry that I did. If there were as many dead post sleevers around as people say, it would be like a zombie invasion.
