Question How Long Does It Take For The Actual Surgery?

My surgery is coming up & my mom is getting nervous.. She wants to know how long I'll be in surgery for because she's going to have to take a nerve pill. She wants to be alert for when I wake up.

    Hi Lacey,
I watched a video of a sleeve surgery and that one took 2 hrs but he repaired a hernia and answered tweets during the session. Most people say 45 min to a little over an hour. I will have mine the end of June. Good luck and tell your Mom not to worry, you will be fine!

Are you getting excited? I was more nervous than my mom. I told my surgeon I wanted to go home and not do the surgery.

I'm freaking out inside! I just want everything to run smooth. When my mom started to cry just now I felt bad for her. I just wanna get it over with!

Oddly enough, I was never nervous about getting the surgery.

I think mine took about an hour.

Thanks Danielle! Ur always so positive. I made the mistake of reading her that scary post the other day.. I didn't think she'd react this way. Being my "mom", she wishes she could go through it herself & spare me any discomfort.

Lacey, Can you believe we're only 18 days away??? I haven't been nervous until now. I watched my husband go through it in April, so I know what the process is, but I'm just now thinking about it for myself. My husband is doing really well - he's lost about 50 lbs. and has so much more energy. He's been going all day and still hasn't sat down yet for the night. I can't wait to have that much energy! So glad you keep posting because it keeps me thinking!!! =)

I can totally understand her hesitance, but make sure you read her the positive things too and try to help her (or both of you if you're still very nervous) focus on those more than the scary stuff!! Don't get me wrong, i know there are risks to this but if the risks outweighed the positives in the end so many of us here wouldn't have done it so willingly or gone to the lengths we did to get it done. My mom was nervous about my surgery (behind me 100% but i'm her only child!!) but she had the chance to sit and talk to someone who'd had the RNY 2 or 3 years ago that just raved about how happy he was for me and what a life changing procedure it was and she seemed to be very calm about it all after that. Please remember we're all here for you and i'll be praying for peace of mind for both of you!!! ((HUGS))

Looking back...I was very nervous as well...but you know ONCE it was over and I got up and going...my only regret was NOT DOING IT SOONER...I wish yall loads of luck....Just remember ...the GAS is the worse part of it all..the sooner you can get up and start walking you will feel so much better. For those in the waiting room...the 45 to 90 minutes wait to a Happy Healthier LIFE for your loved one is well worth it...I Know you think their life will change...BUT yours will too...when you see them LIVING again....

NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS BEING THIN WILL FEEL!

Hubby says I was in surgery for under 90 min and back in my room an hour later. I didn't wake up until about 5 hrs after surgery at all. The meds affect each person differently.

The surgery took about 50 minutes and I was in my room shortly after and then within a few hours I was able to call my 10 year old daughter who was very worried as I am a single parent. I'm almost 3 weeks out and have done fairly well so far. It's a huge decision and it's hard but my future looks so much brighter. I want to bike ride with my daughter and be able to just provide a more active lifestyle for her. She is a huge motivator for me.

My surgery took only 45 minutes, according to the "drunk dial" phone calls I made from the recovery room, of which I remember absolutely nothing and the six people I called (okay...five..I called mom twice) say they will never forget.
