Can anyone tell a time frame? I am waiting for a call back after they check my insurance....my insurance would not pay for the band so I doubt they will pay for the gastric sleeve. I will pay for it myself. I am considering the sleeve over the band.

I started the process in December 2011 and my surgery is scheduled for May 29, 2012. That included attending a required seminar before they would schedule me an appointment to mee with the surgeon, dietician, personal trainer, psychologist and insruance specialist. (This part was done in one visit) Once I had that appointment I had to jump through the hoops for my insuance to pay for it, which involved 3 months supervised diet, list of all my dates and weights for the past 2 years, release for surgery from family Dr. and lab work. This part was completed around mid April and all my information was submitted to my insurance, they reviewed it and approved the surgery in about 10 days and now have my surgery scheduled.
Was really trying to get everything completed and my surgery by May 31st. My new open enrollment/plan year starts over June 1st and since I had already hit my deductible and out of pocket max for the year it saved me a lot of money! Talk about just under the wire with 2 days to spare....whew!
I went to the required informational seminar on Feb 15th, 2011. Scheduled my first consult appointment for February 16th, went through the required pulmonary and cardiac testing, nutrition classes, psych evaluation, and 3 month supervised diet. I submitted my previous WeightWatchers logs (2 years or so worth) along with my doctor's records of my weight for the previous two years. My sleeve surgery was May 23, 2011. It seemed like it took forever to get everything done, but looking back on it now, it all really did move soooo fast!
My insurance only required a 3 month supervised diet. My surgeon required two months of nutrition classes. I'm sure with self-pay, thing would go along much quicker.
Best of luck to you!

I was a self pay that started mid-February 2012 and was sleeved on March 26th.
I started the process August 2011 and had surgery April 1011. my insurance required a 6 month medically supervised diet. if I didn't have to do that and was self pay, all the requirements from support group, nutrition classes, etc. it would have taken about a month. I had a 10 day liquid diet before my surgery.
I lucked up I went to seminar oct 31 and was sleeved nov.29. I at the time had really good insurance. I looking back don't think it was probly the best thing thou. Had I had to wait and go through hoops to get it I probly would have been more determanded and alot more focused. Not saying I haven't done well I just feel it came to easy for me. However I am fearful I was allowed to get it.
