Question has anyone just tried the post op diet and stuck with it without the surgery?

I am considering this sleeve surgery very much, but you have two weeks prep and weeks of post op and wondered if anyone just willed their self to do this diet on their own to prepare for your new tummy and it worked . And you just stuck with it and didnt have the surgery and treat your body as if you had? I guess it may seem like a silly question but all of it takes so much willpower that why not?

Honestly, I've dieted so many times and could not stick to a diet for more then a week or two weeks. If you could stick to a diet, I'd say you don't need the sleeve. It's really difficult to only consume 700-1000 calories a day for the rest of your life. Good luck.

I thought the same thing! But honestly, the two week pre-op, I found the will power that I never knew I had, BUT I kept telling myself that its only 2 weeks!! After the surgery I am so thankful to have the "full" feeling so quickly. Before I NEVER felt full ,I always wanted more. It is and always will be a struggle, but I say it is all worth it.

No....and this is the reason at least for me.....I could eat a ton of food in one sitting and feel "comfortable"....Now....I just can't. Just had a meatball (1) with a little tomato sauce for lunch...STUFFED!! That's why.

There is no way I could have stuck to that diet longer than the two weeks that I had to. Also, the nurses told me that you really don't want to be on it longer than a month but didn't go into detail. Isn't the two weeks torture enough? After the surgery I fill up so fast and it's the best feeling in the world. Before surgery I could eat and eat without feeling satisfied.

I was on oh so many diets before getting the sleeve and one time after the other I would fail. I can say for a fact and with 100% certainty that doing the diet without the surgery wouldn't have worked for me AT ALL.

Some people are required to be on a pre-op diet, even strict ones, for much longer than 2 weeks. So it can and is done. For me, like many others have said, I have been on diets galore for years. The issues are about sticking with it (harder for some than others), weight regain, and metabolic issues. Personallly, the metabolic issues are the thing for me, and they haven't gone away since my surgery. I have a slow metabolism, so when I cut calories and exercise, my body just adjusts and slows back down. So I have to keep my body guessing. That means I can't be in a routine when it comes to food and exercise. I have to vary things every two or three days, or else my body just settles in. The other big thing is weight regain. While I don't like stalls or plateaus, it is reassuring to know that I maintain rather than gain. Of course, I haven't tried to stuff myself and eat lots of unhealthy things, so I'm not saying you can't gain weight. It is just that since I had my surgery, my reduced stomach capacity really seems to help with that.

Good for you for exploring and researching all your options. Surgery isn't for everyone. But it was absolutely the right decision for me.
    Best of luck!

I have two friends that did this and each of them has gained all of the weight they lost back... One had lost 100lb on the liquid diet and gained it all back :-( the other lost 45lbs and gained it back... So I feel like that would be just like the same old yo-yo plan I have been on my whole life, I mean i have lost over 60lbs twice and gained it all back plus some.
My sleve is the best thing I have ever done for myself and I am so happy and free!!

Never in a million years would I have been able to maintain eating as little as I eat for months pre-op. That's the whole idea behind the sleeve - it reduces hunger AND reduces the volume of your stomach, a double whammy to help you eat less, much less. Pre-op I would diet and I always felt like I was starving, even though I was eating more than I am eating now. I could never maintain liquid for more than a couple days at a time, and it was torture. I was so hungry all the time. I'm sure it's possible, but eventually people can't take it, and they gain it all back and then some. I've done that three times. This is the first time I've been able to maintain eating low-cal with absolute ease.
