I was sleeved on 12/20/11 and i havent had anything alcoholic to drink since. Im worried about the effects of alcohol post surgery...ive been invited out after work for a drink and am a bit nervous
I've been having cocktails since the 3rd month and it's fine, just be careful as to what you drink. Pina Coladas and Mud Slides are a no no, I try to stick to Vodka drinks with a juice and I'm good. Since you haven't been drinking in a while you might to sip them at first, tolerance is not the same as before surgery.
Its just the about you drink and trying to find one thats not fizzy. I drink French Martinis now - OMG they are lush, but literally 2 and its gone straight to my head, plus its pineapple and raspberry basically so 2 of your 5 fruit/veg a day what could be better ;-)
I drink socially and had my first drink about 3 weeks after my surgery, went fine. I have now altered the way I have a drink, no more cocktails with anything carbonated and no more beer, if I do drink something carbonated I pay the price with the pain from the gas, plus I can only drink very little. If I want to satisfy my beer craving I just take a sip from my girlfriend's and I am content with that.
I don't know about others that have been sleeved but my tolerance for alcohol has been greatly diminished, It used to take a lot for me to get drunk. Now I drink a couple of vodka and cranberries and I am pretty waffled, which is a good thing.
