    Question Brick Wall

1/27/12 Was my one year post op anniversary. At the end of Feb some family issues came up, mostly having to with the kids, thus diet (to be honest I started eating like crap. Stress literally threw me into old habits over night) and gym was thrown to the back burner. Things are just now starting to settle down and I am having a immensely hard time getting back in gear. Does anyone have any tips or ideas? Before I had the surgery to look forward to then weight loss. Well I've had the surgery and am almost to my goal.

Well, I will be chugging away somehow, just looking for any tips from fellow sleevers who may have had any similar times.

This for some reason has been a tough time for me as well, I am nearing the one year mark and seem to be sabotaging myself. Have to figure out why to begin to change it. Sorry I can't offer more advice, except to say I understand. Forgive yourself, move forward.

Do you have any "Support Groups" you can go to? That may help get you exited and back on track on your goals you set for yourself.

There is a support group here but I can't go to it because of scheduling conflicts. I do have a therapist and she said since I really haven't gained much weight, went from 218 to roughly 222 - 225 depending on the scale (everyone says to use gym scale so I am), I shouldn't beat myself up. I think I will work on getting back into the gym first and get it going then get back into the diet. Trying to do both would probably be WAY to overwhelming, both physically and mentally.

What about trying to jump start your metabolism by doing a modified pre-surgical diet for a few days followed by a carefully planned diet? I, too, am approaching my one year mark and the weight loss has slowed down for me as well. I did a modified liquid diet for four days and then went to a high protein diet with no or very low carbs. It seemed to do the trick.Good luck.

This was the best thing I ever did for myself!!!

Try doing your pre-surgical diet; 4 protein shakes per day for 4 days including broths, teas etc. On day 5-stop the protein shakes and introduce solid proteins-tuna, chicken, turkey, other seafood plus veggies; and on day 6-7 add red meat plus veggies. Always make sure that you are taking in at least 64 oz of fluids. I am not a doctor or health professional but I did this and it did work for me. Good luck.

When I am losing motivation I look for goal pictures in magazines. I don't have unreasonable goals, such as Victoria's Secret models or anything (incidentally I did use Victoria's Secret catalogue pics as my motivation pics in college. Yeah, cuz that was gonna happen!).

My goal is to get down to a size 8, and be toned. Maybe if you are worried about keeping motivated when you get to your weight goal you could set a fitness goal for yourself? Decide you want to work up to doing 10 pushups, or being able to run 2 miles without stopping? Maybe you set a goal of being able to do 100 situps? Whatever your goal, it gives you something to work toward instead of just floating about with no aim. I won't do it without a goal, I know that! I just want to get to a place where I have self-confidence, something I have never had.

    Good luck!!
