Default days off work post op

I am having surgery on Friday and will be off work all next week for spring break (I am a first grade teacher). Will that be enough time to heal and feel good enough to work all day? How long did you stay home after getting sleeved?

Everyone recovers at their own rate, of course. If you are diligent about getting in sufficient fluids and proteins, you might be strong enough to go back to work. Many do. But I would recommend that if you do, you take frequent sitting down and resting breaks...don't try to spend long periods of time on your feet. Pack your lunches and snacks and eat/drink on time/on schedule. I would really recommend that you take another week if you can swing it, and be sure not to lift anything heavier than a couple of pounds or so for the first 6 weeks.

Everyone does recover at their own rate and you are so right about getting the fluids in. I was sleeved 2/16/11. I felt pretty good, so I returned to work mid week in my third week post op. It's pretty hard getting the protein drinks and water down on the same day. I can only get 16 oz of water in a day. (if that much). I'm going into my fourth week, and I'm going to try some light lifting. I found that sitting too long was more stressful than standing, so you have to play it as to how you feel. Thanks for your post.

Wow, you are doing well for weight loss. I returned to work mid week. I didn't think that I could sit all day. Every time I got up, I felt like I had done a thousand crunches. This week is so much better. Take your time and I hope you feel better soon

I am returning to work on Thursday, 6th day post op. I am pretty much at the desk most of the day and nothing strenuous to do. I am 3 days post op now and feeling not too bad. Still having pain and thinking that in a couple days I will tolerate much more. The challenge is/will be getting the protein shakes and water down.

I believe the time off is based on your healing and your job. My job requires me to be able to lift 100 pounds.......since I can not lift anything over 10 pounds for 6 weeks, I have to take the entire 6 weeks off. I had saved my time off for the surgery plus I have paid into my short term disability and will be using that as well. I don't want to take any chances of doing any damage.....I have done too much to get here to mess up now.

I had my surgery on Tuesday and went back to work the following Monday. I have a desk job and don't move around much or have to lift anything. We also have a convienient office fridge for all the meals every 2 hours.
    Surgery Day: 3-8-11
