I found it ok to take pills after surgery. Not huge ones. It's better when you can take them with thick liquids, like a protein shake. I wasn't taking calcium and Vit D (although they were in my multivitamin) and my labs showed it.

I like the Journey bariatric multiformula. The chewables would make me sick and this one has a lot of what I need and is easy to swallow.

For those in other countries, doctors rarely ever make money selling medications, particularly vitamins, which are bought in a drug store. I can't imagine it. They make money being doctors...not drug store owners or pharmacists. I know some naturopathic type doctors (the ones who sell herbs) make money on their medications. But they aren't the ones doing these surgeries!

For me, I did have some deficiencies...I take them because the alternative is having gaps in what you need. I do get some veggies, but protein IS the priority.

I take high quality vitamins as well, however I understand the tablet ones are to hard on you right after. Is that true?

Here in the US doctors can and certainly do make $ from supplements/vitamins, etc. It really depends on the doctor.

It's still rare. I've been in doctors offices all over the country and never seen one that had supplements for sale. They sometimes give free samples away. My point is that the majority of doctors are not advocating vitamins post sleeve because there is financial gain...so the advice is based on medical expertise, not profit.

With many other countries having socialized medicene, I didn't want them to have the impression our US doctors prescribe for the purpose of making money...as a general rule.

I don't think it's rare, it depends on what kind of doctor you go to.

Hmmm.... I've never had a doctor selling me vitamins. Haven't seen them in their offices either. I have received instruction to buy some elsewhere though. A location/brand of my choice.

yeah but does anyone know what happens to the body 10, 20, 40, 50 years from now after not processing nutrients properly? cuz I'm so young and I have to think about that! it sounds like I may be living on a plethora of vitamins every day for the rest of my life, what if I become immune or that doesn't do the job, then what?? what is the longest term for a study on this procedure and the malnutrition involved...

The body doesn't become immune to vitamins. If you think how vitamins are in our food--that's kind of like saying 'what if I become allergic to eating?". Some vitamins are basically dehydrated food and are generally considered the most safe. Parts of your body can wear down and cause deficiencies...and that can happen to anyone. By having a smaller stomach we're losing out on B12 (produced by the stomach--correct me if I'm wrong). And by eating less we're obviously more likely not to get enough nutrients in as we would on a full healthy diet. Taking vitamins helps us avoid deficiencies which can cause problems for our body. You may do fine without them, but it's good to be checked, especially if you're not taking them all the time.

Question - I was under the impression that I wouldn't be able to take that many pills after the sleeve. That I would been needing to take chewable and liquid forms of vitamins.

Your are right. That is why I use the liquid vitamins and mineral called "Alive". I also take vitamin D in chewable form from Costco. They are my treat., they taste like chocolates

Where does one purchase the Biotin vitamins? My hair is really starting to come out at hair washings. I want to try to get on top of it. I do take the recommended doses of the Bariatric vitamins. My blood work was great. In fact, I was able to d/c my extra iron pill. My iron was a little high. So my pill of Calcium + iron is doing the trick.

Im really bad about taking pills everyday so ordered b12 from trimnutrition.com and my husband gives me a shot 2x a week and its really helped my metabolism which was really slow before but Warning: May be sensitive to sulfa allergic individuals
