Yeah, it happens. You still make the same amount of acid but with a smaller stomach. See if your doc will let you take either a ppi or an h2 blocker med at least for a while. Stuff like prevacid, pepcid, prilosec....

My doc had me buy Prilosec OTC and take it every night before bed for 6 weeks. It worked great! Eventually, the acid will slow down and you will be fine.

I have terrible acid too. It was bad at first, but after 4+ months, it is much, much worse! I tried everything too, Prilosec, Prevacid, Zantac, Pepcid, and nothing helped. It would make me feel better for about a half hour, and then the acid was back, with a vengence! I was afraid of developing ulcers in my esophogus and what is left of my stomach. Because I was sleeved in Mexico, I didn't really have a doctor to run to. My regular Internist finally gave me a perscription drug called Dexilant. It is a PPI like Prevacid, but it is much stronger and longer lasting. It is also very expensive, I have to pay $80 even with my insurance. But, finally I have something that lets me live life without regrets. I still have periods of bad acid but they have been reduced a lot, and I can sleep at night now. I recommend Dexilant if nothing else works for you. Mention it to your doctor, he will order it for you if nothing else works.

Heartburn, reflux, seems the same thing to me. I have also had a really tough time of it since the surgery and got fed up with the medicines that the docotr prescribed that didn't really help. So 2 days ago I took myself off everything and started a new regime. Two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a little water morning and night, It seems to be working! Rinse out your mouth after because the vinegar can play havoc with enamel. I now no longer sleep sitting up(huge victory) and I might have one small sign of a little reflux in the middle of the night. The thing I like is that this is a natural remedy( I researched it and there was a site with literally 500 entries commenting on this-most worked but some didn't). Now no one could call me an alternative medicine type but the thought of taking heart burn medicine forever didn't thrill me. I am going to give this a fair trial and see if it keeps improving. Will keep you posted.

Just an update-4 nights on and no reflux. I am sticking with the vinegar.

Well an update-I tried the vinegar for 10 days but resorted back to the pills. The vinegar was starting to burn on the way down-like a needed any more feeling of discomfort.
I am fine during the day usually. It is the night time jolt awake with acid that I hate. I am due back to the docs this week so will see what else they can suggest. Cheers

    Bridie,
THANK YOU for posting your apple cider vinegar solution for reflux. I will certainly try that. I also HATE taking the Dexilant and other acid remedies, because studies prove that they increase bone loss, with extended use. They leach the calcium right out of the bones and women have like, a 400% higher chance of a broken hip with extended use. So, I don't need additional problems, like broken bones or osteoporosis. I will try your remedy and with a little luck, it will tame this vicious, angry acid that plagues me. I am a nurse, but I also will eagerly try a natural remedy first. We take altogether too many chemicals here in the USA. Thanks again for sharing.

WOW- thanks Birdie---I am taking some over the counter stuff, to be honest---I am afraid to stop taking it---I have been taking it for what seems like my whole life. Maybe this time I will be brave and when I run out stop taking them and try the vinegar---I don't know, I am kinda like a big chicken!!! Blessings- Connie
