    Default Adhesions

I do not have a surgery date yet, still working through long testing process at Sparrow Weight management in Lansing Michigan. At my first NUT appt.today she seemed very against the sleeve because of adhesions being such a problem. I haven't read of that problem here. Has anyone experienced this?

NEVER HEARD OF IT ON THIS FORUM, so far, anyway. Plus, she is a Nutritionist, not a surgeon. She shouldn't even be discussing things like that with you. Its out of her scope of practice.

Um, yeah, why is she talking to you about surgical issues? I've also never heard of any adhesion issues. I'd think if there would be any it would be more likely with the rny due to more cutting/stitching or even the lapband because of a foreign body. But you can get them with any surgery, laproscopic or otherwise. I had them cleaned up twice in my life from having open abdominal surgery as a child.

Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.

I had a lap band and had problem with adhesion issues due to the port that was attached to the abdominal wall. Having sleeve done because no foreign object in body. I have told no one about my surgery because there is always someone who will try to knock you down and make you second guess yourself. My Dr. will be told when I see her after surgery. I am sure whe would support me but never know, one word could change everything. I have done my research as best I can and have 100% faith in my decision. Good luck to you and hope that helps.

I agree with all of your comments. I was shocked by her negativity. She said that the reason a sleever has to drink liquids for so much longer than a bypass patient is because the thin stomach has to have something flowing down it all the time while it heals completely so adhesions don't form and block it up. When that happens, the surgeon has to go back in with a "roto-rooter" type of instrument and open the sleeve back up. I have never heard it mentioned on this or any other website. I don't know whether to be nervous, weirded out or just dismiss it.

I would definitely mention what she told you to your surgeon, and that she told you. How horrible to scare a patient like that, and with what is likely skewed information...
