Default liquids after sleeve--what is best choice?

what is the best choice to try for the first few days back from getting sleeved? plain old water? or should you do something like pedialyte or zero calorie sports drinks? what kind of liquids did everyone tolerate best? did anyone add isopure to their drinks the first few days for protein or did everyone do only straight liquid?

When I was first sleeved just getting liquid in was hard. If I could have, I would have ( and know do ) drink protein drinks. My favorite is New Whey. You can find it at the Vitimin shop by the case or Walmart individually. They have 42g of protein, 0 sugar, 0 carbs. If you use half and add 30oz of water it tastes like kool aide, plus by the time you have drank the second half you will have had most of your liquid intake for the day and half of the protein.

For the first 2 weeks, plain water did not go down well. It felt like sandpaper going down. I mostly drank premiere chocolate protein shakes and propel zero, as cold as possible for both.

I am barely able to start drinking with a little bit of ease now but I was on regular gatorade and water super super cold was all I could do.my doctor said regular gatorade was fine at this point because I wasn't getting anything else.

Immediately after surgery, water didn't agree with me too well. I found herbal tea, warm, not hot to be helpful. I drank some crystal light, but that didn't taste right either. Of course, i really focused on protein drinks which does count toward your "fluids"

Cab - watch out for PediaLyte and other drink mix/additives... can be hidden sugar.

I remember drinking pedialyte almost 20 years ago. Tasted horrible. When I tried it again after my sleeve (just 3 weeks ago) I thought... "WOW! They changed their formula and I'll be able to really stay hydrated now!" Turns out it was full of sugar.

I have found something called Mio. Comes in a little plastic container and is super concentrated drink mix. You can add as much/or little as you like. Should be in the drink isle with Crystal Light, Tang, etc is.

    Good luck!

The 2nd day in the hospital, when I had to get down 5oz of fluids every hour for 4-5 hours I found that water didn't cut it. The nurse gave me half cranberry juice/half water and I was able to tolerate that. I found that diluted apple juice was too sweet and didn't taste right. The next couple of days I stuck with kinda tart drinks and found a gatorade flavor that was pretty good - Gatorade Perform in melon pear with electrolytes. I comes in a 16oz bottle, so I was able to measure my fluid intake. These last couple of days I've gone back to a nectar protein first thing in the morning, some type of soupy broth for lunch or dinner, and a 24oz. bottle of crystal light mixed with Now unflavored protein powder 2x a day (48 oz total). That formula is working pretty well for me. Most days the soup I can drink is egg drop soup.

For me warm was easier the first few days home. Even in the hospital I chose the warm drinks they gave me over the cold ones, it just felt better. Even now a warm drink in the morning seems to soothe me. Though I can and do take a cold protein shake in the mornings, something about the warm just makes me feel relaxed inside.

I drank alot of tea when I first got home. Probably my first 3 glasses of liquid a day were warm tea then I'd switch to K2O for the added protein it gave.
