    Default Best thing ever!!!

Will be completing my sixth month later in march and am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy I did this. I have struggled with weight my whole life and have eaten properly and healthfully for YEARS and still carried a huge amount of extra weight. If you are considering WLS I definitely recommend it. I had the Gastric Sleeve at the Obesity Control Center with Dr Ortiz and haven't looked back. I am off my blood pressure meds and best ever I am completely off my insulin. I have lost 60 lbs and continue to lose slowly but surely.
    Wishing you all great success
    Anne

Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana, Mexico? I've had my heart set on working with him on my journey later this summer. Can you tell me a bit more about your experience? Cleanliness?, Pre-Op requirements (by him or staff - i.e. bloodwork). I'm 50 and about 38 BMI. I really want to do this and Dr. Ortiz is who I have narrowed down my choice to. This is the first post I've read by someone who had the VGS done by him. His office was really pushing "plication" as well. Did you consider that? Why or why not? Thank you, in advance, for your answers! And congratulations on a job well done!

I"m so glad to be sleeved also. I'm off insulin and have been for a while. I used to take 80 units a night plus oral meds and no matter how healthfully I ate, the diabetes never went away. I'm almost one year down and almost to my first goal and couldn't be happier with my life at this stage. Married 37 years today and my 62nd birthday is right around the corner. I even put my picture on the website, which is something I would have never done in the past. I have to say, the pic doesn't do the weight loss any justice..lol... I actually look thinner in person and am down 5 sizes; from a tight 26-28 to a 14 pants and a large "regular" sized shirt. No longer shopping in the plus sizes paying more money because I needed more material..lol.... Continued success to everyone!

On Plication: My doctor offered that as well, but I was swayed to VSG because of the removal of the Ghrelin hormone which causes hunger. I really believe that most of us overweight folks tend to be hungrier than our naturally skinny friends, and I believe that is due in part to Ghrelin. I now think more like my skinny friends, and food isn't nearly the compulsion it once was for me.

No one ever mentioned plication to me. What is it? Are a lot of people getting it done?

Plication is basically sewing the stomach into itself to make it smaller, but they don't take it out, and it can be reversed.

Thanks - but while 50% of hunger urges, at least for me, are mental, I really really like the fact that I get empty but not hungry.

Yea, it's all about changing the habit patterns as well. When you can't eat very much you can't use food to relieve life's stress - and you need to find other outlets.

Jerseygirl you are so right about clothes. I have lost close to 40# I bought a beautiful lavendar mid-length dress for my daughters wedding coming up in April. I'm a size 14 in shoulders, hips and waist (down from 20) but since I have asthma my ribcage is a size 16w. I will need to adjust my clothes accordingly. Frustrating, but nice to be getting smaller.

Hi, I am thinking about VSG in the near future but I am concerned it wont help me with my constant over-eating even when I am not hungry...I understand the VSG is a tool but I really need some info regarding whether this tool will help me out with this ... needing advice and reassurance!! How have you managed with your VSG so far has it helped with any form of over-eating or cravings you may have had for food?
