Default Sleeping position? ... right after surgery

I am getting sleeved tomorrow morning and coming home the same day. I am wondering what position you think I will be most comfortable in. I have a sleep number bed and it's adjustable so thought I would make it softer as well as raise the head. Does that sound like it will work? Please, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Coming home the same day? Im surprised....I stayed 48 hours to make sure there were no problems....who is doing your surgery? After I got home I slept in our recliner for 2 weeks...was the most comfortable. Good luck on your upcoming surgery

I slept on my back mostly. My left side hurt because of my large cut that took longer to heal. Propping a pillow under the side that is uncomfortable helps ease the pain...Bonnie

You have a point there. haven't tough about it! I do not have a recliner and my bed is super low as my sofas! I guess I will have to buy many pillows

I slept reclined in bed, leaning on a backrest and pillows and with pillows on either side of me under my arms and another on my belly so my hubby wouldn't bump me in his sleep or my cat(s) wouldn't lay on me as they are used to doing that. Little trick - tie a rope or bathrobe tie or the like to the end of the bed, make a loop and put it up by your hand. When you want to move around a bit it helps to pull you up without straining your belly muscles as much as you would to sit up using just them.

I slept "all of the above positions". I just tried to find a comfortable position and stick to it as long as possible. I never slept with 2 pillows, but I started after surgery and still sleep that way. I was still sleepng with a CPAP and it wasn't easy at first, however; looking back it was never as uncomfortable as I anticipated it would be. Good luck and continued success!

I am a side sleeper, mostly on the right side. Is this gonna be a problem after surgery? I keep reading that the left side is tough, what about the right?

I'm going to say it's individual but as a side sleeper myself I can tell you I couldn't for about a month and then it was with a pillow pressed against my belly and wearing tight undies to hold things. It's about the pannus pulling at things when it moves (I know, tmi but it is what it is)...

Many surgeons are moving to a shorter stay - I stayed one night because I have sleep apnea, otherwise i would have gone home same day too.

I slept in a recliner for the first week post op. I learned that while I was in recovery at the surgical center, getting in and out of bed hurt, but a recliner wasn't too bad.

TEACHn96...It was easier laying on my right side because of the discomfort of my large incision above my belly button, but it was much better laying on my back the first few weeks. It goes by real quickly. I can't believe that it's been almost 11 Mos. already since my surgery!!! I'm so use to the drinking and eating now. I have less heartburn and less hickups. My sleeve doesn't gurgle as much. I'm just much more comfortable with the new me.

My large incision was on my right. Seems to depend on the doctor. I couldn't sleep on my right side for the first couple of weeks. I slept pretty well on my back or just slightly on my side. I could sleep on my left, but not my right. You may want to ask your doctor which side your largest incision will be on. Mine is to the right of the belly button, and I had my drain a bit above that so that was my sore side.

I also slept in a recliner for a couple of weeks and used an ottoman w/a pillow instead of the foot rest. Easier to get in and out of. I like Grace's idea about the bathrobe tie tied at end of bed to pull up on. Will remember that in case needed in the future. Good luck on your surgery and hoping for a speedy recovery.

Thanks everyone this helped me out a lot. I have an adjustable bed so I keep the head at about 45 degree angle and that seems to be the most comfortable.

I have always been a stomach sleeper. About 5 days after surgery I woke up and found that I was on my stomach. I had no pain at all, but though OH NO! I talked to surgeon at my one week appointment and said there was no problems sleeping on my stomach if I was comfortable. The only thing though was once I was laying on my stomach and streched to get something off my side table and it felt like one of my stiches kinda tore. It was painful for a little while, but wasn't bleading or anything. Now 4 weeks out I sleep on my stomach every night.
