Default "I eat whatever I want"

I often times read or hear people that got sleeved say "I eat whatever I want, just in smaller portions".... what does that mean exactly? Are you eating all the delicious things you did prior to surgery? or all the healthy food you want? I really dont know if I am going to restrict myself to a strict diet.... Won't we lose weight regardless?

The sleeve is a tool, I think anyone who got the sleeve has to be willing to change their daily habits for the better, I know that for me as I get closer to my goal weight , I now try different things including carbs and sugars, the good thing is that I dont crave them any more. At least in my case eating is no longer the highlight of the day . I want to live a good healthy life so I got the sleeve and dropped a lot of bad habits and picked up some good ones. Sure if you change your eating habits and exercise alone you will lose the weight , but you are gonna feel like you are starving all the time and your mind will be thinking of food anyway, it would be torture. The sleeve is a great tool to keep you in check keep you in line, but we still have to do our part to make it work.

well 4 me, since i got sleeved and (thank god) lost my super-human ravenous appetite, i vowed 2 eat proteins then produce till i meet my caloric/protein daily goals. So that's what i got used 2 "caring about" all the live long day! My mind goes "no protein=hairfall, no produce=constipation" but if i happen 2 want a favorite unhealthy food (cake, donut, fries, chips, doritos,a cheesy burger, pizza, fried chicken,....) no matter how hungry i "think i am, all i can eat are 2 to 3 mouthfuls & i'm way more than satisfied! So yes you will lose ANYWAY, but getting sleeved is a chance to make a habit out of eating lean low fat proteins, fruits & veggies & whole grains..........but i DO NOT EVER feel deprived!! i mean 3 weeks ago i had a donut & i spent AN HOUR nibbling on 2 it till i finally gave my husband 1/4 of it cuz i got sick of holding it! before getting sleeved, i would easily eat 3 donuts probably once a week......SCARY!!
the first 6 months are the "honeymoon months" when u really shed A LOT of pounds, so try 2 implement a workout system & a healthy eating plan as early as possible doing that helped me soooooooooo much! Good luck on this amazing journey! I love my sleevie wonder!

I think for some of us it means we don't feel guilty about, if we feel like having something we liked before we do it. If i feel like having a whopper, i get a whopper jr and take half the bun off, but that doesn't neccisarily mean i do it a lot. and compared to 2 whoppers in one sitting before, I don't feel bad.

I agree with SuperMike! My doctor has stressed that this is just a tool... just like any tool, this too could not work one day... there is the possibility of stretching your stomach back out if you continue your with your eating habits prior to surgery. I don't understand why anyone would put their body through this type of surgery to just undo it. For me, it has been just over 2 months since my surgery, and the best thing I ever did, my mindset has completely changed. I don't crave the things that got me to this point anymore and I find I am very satisfied with the healthy foods I am now eating.

In any case, everyone is different and each person needs to find what works for them. I wish you good luck in your journey.

When I say it, I mean my body doesn't puke up anything. I don't have a sore or sick stomach if I eat salad or eggs or anything specific. I don't do sugar or junk food but no matter what I try, I seem to be able to tolerate it.

It really is a tool. You can eat the foods you like in moderation, like pizza, just not as much of it. Most of my foods as protein like beef or chicken, but once in a while I have things I used to like, but if I eat too much of it, it makes me sick. The choice is yours. After going through all this, I don't want to blow it. If I have pizza it's with the thinnest crust possible, and then I can have a slice and I'm full. Have fun, but be wise.

when i say i can eat anything. i mean that it doesnt make me sick either, but also, i can pretty much eat anything. i really dont make a habit of it though. everyones right, its a tool. all i know is i may not do things the PERFECT way to do them, but i know i have made lifechanging differences in how i eat what i eat and exercising. i think for everyone to say they'll never eat something bad again is them lieing to themselves to some extent.. it just makes the worlds difference if you only do it once every 2 months from when you were doing it everyday more than once a day. i used to be a sweet eater i mean after everything i ate i wanted something sweet. i rarely eat anything sweet now and for themost part sugar free popsicles do the trick for me... but every now and again if my hubby is eating a little mini powdered donut i take a little bite or somethin like that. or ill treat myself to a tall drink at starbucks ... but not everyday even not every week lol. i think you guys get the picture of what im saying.. i just really dont feel TOO guilty for it because we are all only human. we are faced with temptations everyday! and if youre fighting the temptation 99% of the time, id say youre doing pretty good!

For me, I would say I eat healthy foods 80-90% of the time. I have had some unhealthy stuff, but I'm human. When I do eat unhealthy, I eat such incredibly small quantities, I don't worry about it. Example, I had a Reese's peanut butter cup today. I bought a regular package, with 2 cups. I ate one, and gave the other to my daughter. I'm not stressing over it. I wanted it and I ate it. Dinner was salmon, melon and peas. It all balances out. I enjoy food and I am not going to go the rest of my life and not eat chocolate or whatever. I just don't do it too often, and of course the quantities are super small.

The reason I chose the sleeve over the bypass was the fact that i will be able to have a roast dinner again, ok small size but thats fine and if im out and want to have a nibble on a mini muffin i can ! we have to enjoy our new lives so the odd treat is fine as long as most of the time we follow the rules
    Reason: typo

When I say "I can eat whatever I want", it is usually responding to someone asking me "what can you eat". I don't really eat a lot of solid foods each day. I drink 90 grams of protein each day and usually have a small meal at night with my family. The choices I make are much better, both for me and my family. We use to go out to eat at least 5 times each week, now I cook dinner for my family.

When I really want something and feel it is a bad decision, I first try to think of a healthy alternative. For example, I like peanut butter, but I don't want the calories, so I use PB2, which is great! I add some to my oatmeal with some fresh berries and it taste like PB & J. My daughter just turned 4 today and we had a party for her and I had a small sliver of cake, maybe 3 bites and about a Tsp. of ice cream. I was completely satisfied with the amount I ate, it actually tasted way too sweet, but when I really want something, I just eat very little and I too don't do it very often. My doctor drills us about the tool we have as well and I am scared to dealth of sabataging this. Best of luck to everyone!!

What i mean when i say i can eat whatever i want is that i can eat all the different food groups that i ate before my sleeve, foods that i read some people writing about and saying they can never eat ever again because of advice or strict diet instructions.

rry it took me so long to get back to you..thank you for answering me...would you have the surgery again? My insurance will not pay and I was wondering if it was worth taking out a loan...I do not like my self the way I am and I fight depression...doing better with new meds but wondered if the surgery would put me in a depression because I would feel cheated from food?? I am sorry if that is a stupid question, guess I am just scared. I was also told by one person that you could not swallow pills anymore..all meds had to be liquid..do you have that problem? Thank you for taking time yto help me.. Missy
