    Default Alcohol?????

This Tuesday will be five weeks since my sleeve. I feel great! I am down 34 pounds.. My birthday is next weekend and I am going to dinner with my hubby.... I would like to have one margarita while I am out! When did everyone (if anyone did) have alcohol after your surgery??????? I will email my MD Monday to ask him as well. I am just curious! I know a lot of people say they dont even feel like drinking after surgery but I feel like one! LOL! THANKS!

I LOVE my margaritas!!!!!! But, I'm 4+ months out and haven't done it yet. I just don't feel like at this point in my journey the calories are worth it and frankly I'm a little afraid of what it will feel like in my sleeve. You don't want to ruin your birthday with an upset stomach.

I read to wait one year. I would try one at home prior to make sure all the sugar doesn't give you dumping syndrome and/or vomiting. You will probably feel the effects of a drink much faster as well. I wanted a glass of wine last night but didn't...long day with sick kids at home. Anyhow, I would try it in private before out at a restaurant, but that is just me. Happy Birthday early.

I just got back from an all inclusive resort in Cuba - we were there for 2 weeks and I promise you I enjoyed the rum - just not with pop!
I also managed to lose 8 lbs while there.
I didn't get hammered or anything, but I had a handful of drinks each day. It didn't seem to hit me hard at all, in fact, I actually tolerated the alcohol much better than ever before. I felt like it barely hit me. That being said, I was exercising - swimming, doing a lot of walking, hiking, dancing, etc.
I had a few mojitos but had it modified and made without soda/pop, had a rum with pineapple juice/orange juice or lime slush, or fresh pina coladas made with fresh coconut juice. Enjoy - just don't turn it into a habit! I allowed myself to enjoy my vacation - I still watched what I ate carefully, I did allow myself a few cheats, but as a rule stuck to the meat (protein first), then veggies, then anything else - truthfully I didn't really get more than one bite of anything else because the rest kept me full. Now that we're back I'm back to being diligent again.

    Enjoy your birthday dinner!

I'm just about 3 mo out and I had 4 vodka w/cranberry juice last week on Fat Tue. I didn't feel the slightest bit sick, and it didn't hit me any faster than normal. I was just a bit tipsy at the end of the night. Have a great Birthday!!

If you have to have a drink, pick something w/less sugar. Plus, like the others have said, I would recommend doing a test drive at home before drinking in public. Also, remember that you cannot drink w/in 15 minutes of eating and at least 30 minutes after eating. How long are you planning on being at dinner? I would think that you would need at least 2 hours, since you won't be able to drink at the same rate that you did pre-op.

    Please be careful! Happy Birthday!

3 months after my surgery I had 1 half of a very, very small vodka and cranbury and it kicked my ass!! LOL

My profile pic/avatar is me immediately after said ass kicking - I was buzzed and Irish redfaced....

I was fine having the drink, but it hit me super fast and super hard....I haven't had a drink since, but I actually might go drinking with my favorite cousin tonight....

I was sleeved on dec. 14th and had a glass of wine on new years eve. I also just came back from mardi gras and had a few shots every nite and a couple of vodka and cranberry juices. The shots got to me pretty quickly but I could sip the mixed drinks with the same effect as before the sleeve. Happy birthday! Enjoy yourself and get back on the program the next day!

I never really liked alcohol, so I haven't had the desire to have any. Funny thing - my husband likes beer and was telling me how good this on particular beer was so I took a sip. Yes, a sip! I forgot about the bubbles and I was burping all night long! (BTW - didn't like the beer either.)

My surgery was 12/07. I went to a concert a couple night ago and had a daiquiri. That was my first alcohol since surgery. I had no problems but I ate dinner about 40 minutes earlier so I wasn't drinking on an empty stomach.
