Hiatal Hernia repair with gastric sleeve?

Mary,
Mine was a para esophageal with my half of my stomach located in my esophagus. Sleeping was very difficult at first so I know what you mean by propping up to be able to sleep. When I try to lay flat I get the tough pain right between the breasts. I am mostly a side sleeper so i was able to get back to that sooner rather than later. Thank you so much for sharing you experience with me. I really do appreciate it and it's nice to know I will be okay soon.

Marva, I cannot believe we had the same type of hernia! Good to know we're not alone. My stomach was pushed up through the diaphragm & into where my lungs are. After I was told about it, everything made sense. I had been having shortness of breath for a long time & thought it was asthma. Now after the surgery, I breathe easy even when I lay on my back. I am so glad we both had out issues resolved and can look forward to weight loss with the reflux.

i was told after my endoscopy i also have a hiatal hernia .he said hell decide when hes doing the sleeve wed whether to fix it as its small. id prefer he fix it. any suggestions . does this make recovering take any longer

i have a hiatal hernia as well .my surgery is wed and the dr said hell decide if he will fix it when he gets there .its supposedly not big but id think it would be better to fix it. so, any thoughts

It is the perfect time to have it done. The surgery limits the neeed for food and allows you time to heal. It also eliminates the problems you have with acid and reflux. Acid is a problem after gastric sleeve and with a hernia it would be very difficult. Just keep in mInd that it wont be easy but you will be better for having it done. A hernia is nothing to mess around with and gets progressively worse over time. This is the best time to get it done, trust me on that!
