So I have been reading and reading and researching and researching some more. I feel like I know just about all I need to know, but I am for sure a details kind of person. I want everything, in one place, where I can read it all.
I am having my surgery April 10th in Mexico with Dr. Almanza. My mom is coming with me.
I am curious as to what exactly we should pack, what I should expect, the hospital stay, the stay before and after surgery.
I am SUPER nervous! I just wanted to be as prepared as possible.

My surgery is at the end of March an my mother is coming with me also except she too is having the surgery. I have researched the sleeve for over a year now but it seems like no amount of info is enough! I hope ppl resond to your post!!!!

Hi there and welcome!

I had surgery with Dr. Almanza on 10-10-11 and it was the best thing I have ever done for myself! He is expertly skilled at what he does, and I wish you the best!

If you have done research on Dr. Almanza, I think you probably already know that Hospital Jerusalem is actually a small clinic located in a strip mall. I know that scares a lot of people, but rest assured, the place is sterile and well equipped. The staff, drivers, everyone make you feel welcome. They usually do several operations a day. They do the person with the lowest BMI first and go in order to highest BMI. Please be diligent with your liquid only diet phase. It really helps with surgery and recovery! You will walk into the OR, lay down, and pretty much not remember anything else til you wake up in recovery. I was really thirsty but you can't have anything til next morning. They are very good with administering pain meds or sleeping meds if you need them.

Are you staying at the recovery house? I am sure they told you there would be room for you, but they can't guarantee a bed for any guests of yours. I know some people get really upset if there is no room, but you are warned of this beforehand. I loved staying at the recovery house, lots of commeraderie there.

I know I brought a small suitcase, and I still brought too much! I would have been fine with one change of clothes and some baggy clothes/nightgown and a robe. I didn't need much else. The electrical outlets are the same as in the USA. I brought a little cash and a credit card. I went shopping the day after surgery...DO NOT GET RIPPED OFF...I liked a necklace and bracelet and their starting price was like $150...and in the end I could have had it for $30 so drive a hard bargain!

Thank you so much! I apprecite the replies. I wasn't aware about the Recovery House and the fact that there may not be room for your guest(s). I am bringing my mom with me, so I'm hoping there is room for her as I was planning on staying there. I was curious about what I would need to pack, so you've helped with that. Thank you so much!
