    Default passing out

Yesterday I passed out 3 times, and almost another 5.

I have been a good boy when it comes to only drinking liquids and keeping my fluids up.

However I have grown to hate the Protein shakes, so I switched to soy but then grew tired of it, I ran out of isopure, so I did something which I think was dump. I switched to my favorite green tea.

I don't know if the caffeine had anything to do with it, but I think the lack of protein was causing issues.

The average person looses a cup of blood a day in their stomach. We are higher. I think without protein I was not able to replace my lost blood which was leading to lower blood pressure. My blood pressure is usually 99/66. I think with a little lost blood it may have dropped too low.

I also wonder if my extreem weight loss is due to my poor eating habits. I have been loosing 1 or more pounds per day.

Last night I forced my self to drink 17g of protein and gave my self a little sugar. Today I am feeling better. Today I will make myself drink some protein. I think I will do better when the doctor allows me to eat fish in two weeks.

I know my dietician has told me if I try to lose faster by keeping myself in ketosis that could happen, now keep in mind I have other issues I am dealing with medically so I don't know if that matters but she was adamant I should not be keeping myself in ketosis. Her theory it will come off the way it's meant to in the time it's meant to I I keep myself healthy. Just 2. Cents because I don't know if that's what you are doing. I do know for me when I don't follow her guidelines I do get light headed and feel like I'm going to pass out, which is not conducive to me being able to exercise.

I'm not a professional so please take it as such.

    Hope you feel better soon

My husband passed out too after having WLS, and there could be many contributing factors. He has high blood pressure so medication can do that to you, especially if you are not getting enough nutrients in. Usually low sugar or potassium can cause that. I would definitely keep in touch with your physician and see what they recommend.

I'm thinking low blood sugar. Get some glucose tablets from the store. When u start feeling shaken chew a couplt and sit down for 10 minutes. Do u have access to a test kit?

I don't know if they deliver to Oz, but these have been recommended as a complete protein by Grace, another sleever. If they don't deliver to Oz I'd be happy to split a package and then send it on to you. Passing out is not good.

Well, you are still pretty early out, so i would still suspect hydration (electrolytes?), blood pressure and blood sugar before i would suspect inadquate protein. Has your doctor taken a look to see what is going on? I was losing about a pound a day during the first two weeks also (of course, it has now slowed down to a crawl!) It might be just that you aren't getting enough calories if you aren't having protein drinks but are still on liquids only. I dont know if you have them, but I find the Nectar proteins to be more bearable then most - I ordered directly from the company and then from Amazon. For the premixed, I use the Premier Protein - 30G of protein in a fairly modest sized container.

I do agree that you will feel much better once you can start eating food. I felt pretty cruddy (no fainting though) that first month. I am at 6 weeks today, and can finally say that I am feeling pretty good again.

Drink a little orange juice a few times a day. You won't pass out, but the acid in it might bug your stomach. Just hang in there honey, you will get better once this stage passes. Really, hang on, it will get sooooo much better.

You have only lost 33 lbs so far, but who knows...I would check w your nutritionist and doctor! I lost 187 pounds in 1 year once (120 in the first 6 months) and that was on a diet without surgical intervention! I began fainting and when checked my blood sugar, pulse, heart rate and blood pressure were all alarmingly low. This went on for several months with me having a ton of tests to figure it out. Finally a cardiac doc at the Univ. of WA said that his belief was that my brain was so freaked out at the huge rapid weight loss that the brain was trying to shut all systems down to conserve energy. I went on steroids for another year and lost another 68 lbs. Then I only had to deal with freezing to death!!! it took about 3 years total after weight loss to stop feeling so cold all the time. I wish you all the best and don't forget to call your providers!!!
Mourning may last all night but joy comes with the morning light.

I see we have the same surgery date, so maybe this will help. I have been dizzy to the point of needing to hold on to something when I get out of bed or a chair. I too get almost sick thinking about having another sweet protein drink. I started to eat some soft and mushie foods (the most my stomach will hold is 1/4 cup--which I measured is the exact amount that metal sauce cups in restarants use). It has helped me get more protein in and feel like schedule my drinking better too.
Are you back to work or working out, or taking it easy for a while?

I almost passed out the other day but I have been having a SUPER stressful week, and haven't been eating as well as I should... so I am sure mine was just not taking care of myself. It's hard to force myself to eat and I feel nauseous every morning... hard to get enough protein in! I can't STAND those disgusting shakes...

Today I mixed straining cream of broccoli, a little cheese, and flavorless protein. it was great. I think I am doing a better job of keeping my protein above 20 now which is better than 0.

If your doc has allowed mushies, keep this in mind: you can puree lots of things in your mouth just by chewing them to death. If you like shrimp, here's an idea I tried today for lunch.

3 oz of the tiny shrimp (little, little ones that are as big around as the end of your thumb) have 21g protein in 3oz. I bought a bag of frozen ones in a resealable bag. I thawed out 3oz, heated 'em for 20 seconds in the microwave, threw a little garlic salt, salt, and pepper on there. Dipped in a sauce that is 2 parts lowfat mayo and 1 part mustard (2tbsp mayo, 1 tbsp mustard). So delicious, went down easy because the shrimp are so soft that it doesn't take long to chew them into mush. You can make this in less than 5 minutes once the shrimp are thawed. Easy, and 21 GRAMS OF PROTEIN! Yum.

I did that a week or so after surgery too. I wasn't eating/drinking enough. It was scary and weird.
