    Default 5 Years Later... 12/2/13 - 12/2/18

I can't believe that it's been five years since I had my sleeve... 330 - 220 in 6 months... I currently weight in at 228. I've walked 4-5 miles every day in the past 5 years... Really about 95% of the time. I still feel my restriction if i eat to fast and too much. I still don't get very hungry.... My numbers were always perfect, even at 330 my heart rate was 48.... Glucose was 90 and cholesterol was 200 because I exercised. After my numbers were slightly lower....

The bad.... Before, I could count on my hands how many times I drank Alcohol.. I never drank... about year four I was drinking beer everyday by myself... My body found a new addiction... I was warned by my doctor, but I laughed.. I'm 55 I never had a problem with Alcohol in my life... Boy was I wrong... I stopped early this year.....All I can say is be careful. Other than that I had a wonderful experience and I'm still having it....

PS I'm almost 60 years old...

You are doing great. To lose all that weight and after 5 years still be very close to a goal is incredible. With regards to alcohol I can relate. I drank my whole life and knew I needed to limit after my sleeve. I have to watch all the time. Alcohol and a sleeve is compared to prescription medication, there are always side effects. I went to an alcohol awareness seminar and learned a lot. I still love a great glass of wine or a really good scotch but I lost my taste for beer. I now have a beer on a hot summer day after gold but maybe only one. Usually I can't even finish one. The fact that you know alcohol might be an issue is a positive. You are doing great!!

    Thanks for sharing your story!
    It is very inspirational.
As for me: I drank one glass of wine every day and sometimes 2 in the weekends.
After my surgery I have not drank one glass and frankly, I don't miss it.
I don't think I will start any time soon, just the smell puts me off completely.
    Strange, isn't it?
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

    Hello Keith,

Glad to see you back on the forum!

I was warned too by the alcohol issue during my psych eval. I did read the Canadian study about it, was scary to say the least. Basically it was how people go from food addiction to alcoholism. But the scary part was about the suicide risks. I must say it's hard to see the link but it's been studied..

At least you saw there was a problem and you addressed it!

For me it's chocolate...I have to be extra careful or I would be eating a full size bar each day. Or even several bars...who knows..

And to be true, lucky my stomach can't take alcohol I don't have to think about it. I've always been keeping my distances, because there is several people who died from alcoholism in my family and I knew the risk was nearby. So even if everyone was always drinking around me, I always stopped at one glass, and wouldn't even drink once a month. I was always the designated driver..

    Take care!
