    Default Hungry all the time?

Does anyone have those days where you feel like you are hungry all the time? if so what do you do about it. I dont find i have those days often but sometimes i feel like i could eat anything that moves. This is odd to me, because i thought that the hormone now being gone that makes you feel that way? Maybe a false sense of hunger that i am feeling. I eat like i am supposed too protein first, everything else after that. I have been told maybe i am not drinking enough water? I dunno I went back to writing everything down that goes in my mouth so i can be accountable.

First off - congrats on your surgery!

Second... the hunger hormone known as Ghrelin is not gone with this surgery. While it may be reduced due to the new floor plan of your stomach, it is not gone, sadly.

However, at your stage I would say it is likely not hunger but stomach acid, which absolutely mimics the ache and sting of an empty stomach. The good news is this phenomenon is very common and manageable.

I took Prilosec (and still do intermittently) to get rid of the acid "hunger" feeling. Ask your surgeon what they would recommend and what they believe is safe for you to take at this point. I do not recommend self medicating without the surgeon's approval.

TLDR; It's probably acid. It's fixable. It's going to be okay. ^_^

My great tool post-op (besides my sleeve) has been daily, consistent tracking of my food to PLAN what I'm going to eat that day and (at the end of the day) to update what I ACTUALLY ate that day. This helps me be in control. It also helps me collect information that I review regularly to see how I'm doing and whether and how much I need to jigger what I'm doing.

I use My Fitness Pal as my tracker. It's free. Love it!

Big shocker -- 3 years and 4 months post-op I'm STILL using My Fitness Pal. Yup. I'm that girl. And I haven't gained any weight back at all. NONE.

If you are especially active, your body may be telling you "hey! feed me! I need it!". Your body can be quite good at signaling you when it needs something and even what it is it needs.

Just stay away from high sugar and high carb items that will do nothing to nourish you, but definitely enjoy that yogurt or cottage cheese or piece of chicken (yes, have it with the skin on). Eat those green veggies. Have a small handful of nuts. Enjoy them all. Your body will thank you by cutting down the hunger.

    Cheers, mate. ^_^

In the beginning I felt like I was always hungry. I used to have a protein bar on me at all times. If I felt hungry I would take a small bite of it or have a piece of beef jerky. As I got farther out, that went away. I think it was more because I ate such small amounts and my body needed it. It did not prevent me from losing weight. As I was able to eat a bit more I did not have to do that anymore.

    THIS THIS THIS

I've just been going through this recently too. I absolutely felt starving hungry, stressed and anxious all the time. It was almost a physical pain in my stomach. You guessed it - it wasn't hunger, it's stomach acid. As soon as I put a pepcid in my mouth it goes, however I could suck a pepcid constantly but as soon as it's finished the feeling of hunger pangs and stress comes right back, even after I've eaten and am full. Learning that it's actually stomach acid and not hunger or anxiety has saved me from constant grazing, feeling anxious and worrying.

If you're taking protonix and still having feelings of hunger a lot, perhaps switch up the medication? I don't know if that will help but it might be worth a try to ask your doctor for a different prescription. I took ranitidine but it didn't seem to make much difference. The only thing that seems to work are famotidine (pepcid) tablets that you suck, which is a pain for me because I hate sucking on those things, they taste horrible, but they work. Fingers crossed eventually the stomach acid will die down.
